I don't believe a blog can do such harm. In the article it clearly states that: ..."something that may or may not have been related". (with the blog)

And of course it's not related with the blog: If you are a Dell customer you might know what I mean (do you speak English?!!!)

Dell's terrible customer service (both pre and after -sales) is a fact, a reality. This is the main reason of the recent "drop in Dell's customer satisfaction ratings" and not because customers read the specific blog! D-:

According to the article, a post on w ell read blog sparked other posts and comments on the same thing about poor dell customer service. So thta means more exposure so people know that Dell may not be that great ultimately leading too a drop in popularity from those who read the blog. True the blog may not be the main cuase but it still sparked some of the drop

an opinion publicized on a blog may influence people who read it. but i don't think the impact of such negative remarks on Dell could have caused their ratings to go down.

And again, I don't think what you write is true-(correct I mean)...

Imagine for instance Dell satisfied customers -plenty of them-. Doesn't matter how many negative blogs they read-if they are satisfied from a top notch customer service they are not going in any way to be influenced by a blog.

They will even reply to the blog writer and say: "what are you saying? This is not true!" or simply they will not read that blog again as they will consider it untrustworthy.

I hope you got my example.

Ya But for those hwo are unsure... The negative opinion will stick in their head regardless of what their opinion is. They will remeber.. jeez 50 people thought Dell isnt good (Not my opinion) maybe it really isnt. And then coming from a blog that isnt like a small blog, it gives its opinions to the reader...

Sorry Iravan but I cannot understand the way you're thinking. :) What you wrote above has nothing to do with the article.

From the article: "On Wednesday, the University of Michigan released a survey confirming a drop in Dell's customer satisfaction ratings, something that may or may not have been related." (with the blog)

Is "customer satisfaction ratings" related in any way with "unsure people", people that had never dealt with Dell's customer service before?

Well structured surveys (especially for Fortune 500 companies like Dell-currently ranked 28 if I'm not wrong, or for surveys conducted by Universities like Michigan) ask in the beginning of their questionnaires: Have you contacted customer service before? YES or NO? If yes then proceed to next question, if no then thank you for your time. I believe you must have come accross a basic survey (either online or offline) once or more times in your life and you know what I'm talking about.

So, who are those people that responded to the survey and answered that Dell's customer support is bad?

"Unsure people" that have read the specific blog or Dell customers that contacted customer service -one or more times- before and know from first-hand experience that their customer service is lacking? :o

Actually What I stated was that the blog could influence the undecided people negativeley against a topic. I was not looking at the study... If 10 credible people say the same thing.. people may listne... I am just pointing out the power blogs could potentially have over influencing peoples decisions. For example Gizmondo honestly if they say something isnt good I believe them. They are a credible source... and influence my opinions as well as countless others...

um well if someone write a blog about something, then 5 people reads it and may in turn post a blog about it too. if this process goes on, it can be very influential.
