what is image ranking in search engines worth if anything?

eg - my website is ranked near the top of Google images under the search term 'domain specialist'
or close to the top of page 1 on mobile etc for domain specialist

do businesses like to be top of Google image ranking in their business sector?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Only if the images drive useful traffic. Typically, that would be something like ranking for pix of a product you sell.

Image search doesn't convert well for everyone. Ask yourself "would someone typing this query be looking for an image?" And if the answer is yes, what does that tell you about their intent?

Someone interested in an image of a "domain specialist" would probably be looking for a picture to use on their own site...or maybe for an article, not looking to do business with one.

Or they want to know if you are good-looking before contacting you. So maybe attractive pix convert or convert better.

Ranking on image search requires both the optimization of images and page elements to promote the ranking of those images in search, as well as optimization of images and image sizes so they load faster and improve page speed. Here’s how to do it.

was curious really because with domains a person can tell the quality and value of a domain by seeing it in written form without needing to see images etc

but in the uk people pay quite a few £k for personalized number plates etc and in that sector people love to see a pic of a good quality personalized number plate on a car
and in that sector my website does well in Google images etc

Do you have a lot of images in your top landing pages report? If you want to see what it's worth to you, implement conversion tracking on your site. Then you can see if/which images are driving conversions.

From Google Search Console - search analytics -> select Image from search type (can also compare to web traffic)
Or Google Analytics - Referrer -> Select Google.com (or local Google site sending traffic) -> look at the image search URLS ( images, imagedetail, imgres)
That will show you how many people enter your site via finding that image on Google image search.
If you use the GA report and have conversion tracking set up, you can tell how many conversions it's driving.

cheers for that i didn't know that

not many people visit my site but i don't much mind

i have another site similar set up one page fast loading and decent domain name and i watch other websites get near the top but can't move it from the top image and page 1 or top of page two in main Google search listings

total cost to me £100 for both including web design SEO and hosting and great customer service

one page just sits there on the back burner so to speak and the other i can play about with keywords etc

The usefulness of a search engine depends on the relevance of the result set it gives back. While there may be millions of webpages that include a particular word or phrase, some pages may be more relevant, popular, or authoritative than others. Most search engines employ methods to rank the results to provide the "best" results first. How a search engine decides which pages are the best matches, and what order the results should be shown in, varies widely from one engine to another. The methods also change over time as Internet usage changes and new techniques evolve.
