Some of my sites are listed-most at the bottom of the results using my url as the search word.But then what fun is there in finding your site as soon as you do a search.
Sometimes it is more exciting wading through 39,000 search pages to be rewarded with
the knowledge that you can beat every attempt made by Google to hide your site as much as they are capable of.
Its kinda gives you the "me against the search world feeling" of acheivement.

i think if you check your logs you might well find out many more search terms for which you're on page 1 on google or even #1 .....

gopc has had the top spot on Google, Yahoo, MSN, Netscape, etc for YEARS. Now between GoToMyPC and the new ultra-mobile pc companies competiting and spending tens of thousands of dollars on ads and SEO, my lofty position has been in jeapordy.

I've been bumped from #1 in Google a few times now, only to be back in a day or two. Today, I was surprised to find myself down in 18th position on Yahoo But I'll be back.

What's interesting is how a site can jump to #1 for about a 2 or 3 days and then fall back to 15th. This must be the result of a paid ranking campaign. As near as I can figure, these paid campaigns don't ever seem to last. I've never paid to have www.gopc.com at the top of the list but I've alwasy been there and seem to be right back once their big puch has ended. Note to self: Don't bother paying

Anyway, congrats on the #1... enjoy it but don't take it for granted. KEEP working on staying there.

yeah but gopc is a very uncompetative keword is it, overture shows 1.3 searches per day. no one is gonna bother paying to rank for a keyword which has no traffic. There are fluctuations in google serps all the time, if it were a paid ranking campaign it would be number #1 for alot longer than a few days.

OVT is a crock and people that depend on its value are fools. My traffic averages over 3500 page views a day. How is that possible with an OVT of only 1.3 per day? How is it that my site tracking software shows over 100 searches with extension per month and OVT shows around 30? I have good, solid traffic and OVT doesn't have a clue. Why is that?

Is it because nobody uses OVT except people who are trying to insult and devalue a name?

Not every domain is about earning a few pennies per click...

well i can can get 10,000 page views a day with an OVT of 0 if i needed to, search engines arent the only source of trafffic. It wasnt meant as a personal attack at all i was mearly stating that i doubt anyone would pay for a ranking campaign to rank for "gopc"

I don't think it was meant to be a personal attack GoPC, but I can see where you're coming from.

Overture is actually very accurate, you are forgetting that it tracks only searches in yahoo, not google, msn etc. So the amount of searches for "gopc" will probably be higher (2 times, maybe more).

The reason you can get so many page views even though there may only be 10 searches for the exact keyword "gopc" is because you will be catching other keywords also, and straight from links to your site. So definately SEO work is still a great idea for almost any site, including yours.

Amnezia was simply pointing out that the exact keyword "gopc" would not grab you heaps of traffic, but ofcourse your SEO work has not gone wasted, as you will be catching heaps of other keywords.

Anyhow, time to celebrate for KPR :D Grats!
