Hey there,

I'd like to quickly introduce myself as I plan to stay on these forums for a while. It seems like an ideal place to discuss everything related to domaining.

I'm educated in international economics and business with a specialization (master of science) in China. I also have about 6 years of experience in web application development and server management.

For about two years I have been using my knowledge in statistics and finance for domaining. I use a lot of open source work in natural language processing to assist me. I like to gather huge datasets and perform big data analysis to find some sweet domains that are still out there.

Cheers,
Tom

Stay away from the drop catchers, domain "auction" entities, individuals and companies involved in past or current shill-bidding scandals, high-ranking individuals and registrars that allow themselves and/or their own employees to bid against you in the auctions they control.

The domain auction business has stretched the meaning of the word "auction," so that shill-bidding, insiders bidding against clueless customers, never expiring auctions, and other questionable practices have now become the norm.

Just remember that wonderful, registered .com names will probably never be available to you on a drop, because individuals at drop-catching entities would probably keep gems for themselves.

There's a real seedy side to the domain business, so wear your knee-high rubber boots. You'll need them if you become involved.

Wow, that's quite a warning! Thanks for your honesty. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for these kinds of practices.

Stay away from the drop catchers...
I have had great luck with Pheenix.com.
They aren't appropriate for highly valuable names.
They do catch a lot of names I want for under $20.
Auto-pilot, no muss, no fuss.

Really not surprised about SnapNames; they are unethical and the worst internet and domain related business I have aver seen.

As for GoDaddy well..that explains why some horrible names go for thousands.

Also..we all know that the majority of auctions on Flippa, NameJet, Godaddy & Co are driven by the sellers who ask people to make fake bids....
