    Hi Brian,

Welcome To NamePros. Domaining is the best business of the end-times.

    Some advice:

    1) Quality > Quantity
    2) Don't follow the bandwagons
    3) Don't lose credibility, Don't do something that would hurt your reputation.
    4) Read, Learn, Understand what works. Know what to buy! Do your research before buying domains. Find who you're going to sell your domain to before buying the domain!
    5) Don't take too much risk.

    You're welcome.

    Best Regards,

    Best Domainer Of The End-TImes.

    Hi @Brian H

Look at domaining in the same light as gambling because regardless of what anyone says it is just that... a gamble every time you buy a domain. In fact it is worse because you have to double your gambling costs every year in the form of renewals.

So follow the advice of our friends here but understand that the first rule in gambling is don't spend more than you can afford to lose and keep in mind the ever looming renewals.... that first year passes very fast.

Welcome aboard, have a great time, and I wish you the very best with your endeavours. (y)

    Welcome friend!

No matter what.....treat domaining as a business, not as Christmas shopping.

Buy very, very wisely. Sell very, very wisely.

    Enjoy!

Welcome to Name Pros Brian :). Best would be to start reading lots of stuff out here on NP and across the web. There's definitely a number of aspects to be understood and analysed before registering or making any kind of purchase.

With time and consistency, you'll start getting a clue as to where to start and how ! See you around.

Hello am i right in thinking that come the end of or near the end of the year you can cancel domains if you dont not wish to renew :)

Absolutely and a proper culling is more than likely indicated for most new domainers.

This might be a stupid newbie question but why do domains with random six digit numbers and one word domains even if the word is never really used go for thousands??

Hey Brian - start reading some of the 10,000 discussions in Domain Beginners and then ask your "newbie" questions there. Then its your choice as to how you want to buy domains. The best advice I've heard is only buy domains that you think you could make into a profitable website if you weren't going to hold onto it and flip it for a profit ... and even then, there are ways to make money off it by parking - go read that discussion board too. Part of my portfolio is some number domains for "speculation." Good luck!

Great question! :) When I started almost 3 months ago I had the same kind of questions going in my mind.
    So about your question,
well at first sight, surely these random numbers and letter combinations didn't make any sense but they became very significant after the Chinese investors started investing heavily in them. Because some of these letters and number combinations have some important meaning in Chinese and thus they are commonly known as Chinese Premiums or Chips.

Now what exactly are these Chips?

Well, Here comes the part where you study and study and study again
to get an idea of how things work here?

    Welcome to the Club! :)

    start slow
    quality brandable names
then bang the flour with advertisements, marketing, join forums like namepros,
park your domains at right place, right time,
    and be cool...............

dude first of all calm down, i can understand your problem of being a new bee in the domain industry but my advice for you is that you should make research and then buy domain.
    go for .com
    .net
.oi but my favourite is .com because it is highly valuable and highly recommended from myside
you can also choose country TLds but its market is small so i will advice you to not go with country TLds.
go for more generic , small words and also try to find more combination of brandable names.
you can try numeric , you can also search for adult domain.....there are many option but choose something attractive and also search in google tool bar for the rating of the words.

Well it would be better if you study and see for yourself what works here instead of listening to every random advice...( including mine lol. Listen to everyone, but act on your gut) :)

I'm no expert so I'm not going to give you some big advice, but I can point you in the right direction.

    So Here you go,
Your guide to numeric domains : https://www.namepros.com/threads/understanding-premium-numbers-in-chinese.890460/

This place is filled with all the information you will ever need. Keep looking around. (y)

Make mistakes, learn from them. Have a few accidental victories, and some intentional ones.

In the end, have more victories than mistakes and you will be fine.

    Good luck.

Think like an end user. Don't buy or register crap you would not think of buying as an end user.

Don't buy anything you don't understand.

Most people have no idea what is c*ap and what isn't.

People are forgetting that great names cost a lot of money to purchase. So what is a newbie expected to do?

Welcome to Domaining. Unfortunately there's no such thing getting advice and learning from them but you will Learn more from your mistakes. Its a process that we all (domainers) go through. There are no domainers that could say they never made Mistakes and Made Bad choices in the begging.
My advice don't just give up because you won't succeed in beginning. (I hope that is not the case for you) . Read more about domaining and Invest Less.
Agree @Justin Matmor . It will take you sometime to realize What is good domain and What is Crap .
    Best Wishes.
