So I decided to make this website where I simply think up of domain names worth at least $750 or so to the end-user, and then just post them online for free. Then, I put an advertisement on the site to collect a tiny amount of income. What do you guys think? I post new domain names daily.

The site name is:

www (dot) domainideasfree (dot) com

Anyone think this is a good idea?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
... if I saw a name that I thought was good, then I would reg it, and try a quick flip. In fact I've just started to do this. :)

We really need to get "Domaining" in the dictionary! lol ;)

Seriously though, I think this is a great idea for a new domainer. Post up names you think are good .. and if somebody actually buys them then you know you are at least able to find reg-fee liquid value domains. Meaning that if you buy them for reg-fee, you'll at least be able to resell them for regfee (ok ok .. it's not actually that simple or easy, but it's close).

If after posting 1000 names you find most are registered, then you might actually want to consider starting to invest in domains yourself. If almost none are taken, then you've learned that domaining might not be for you at no cost (something the majority people who left the industry certainly can't say).

That being said .. I seriously would not recommend anybody buy the names you've posted so far. A couple might actually not be worth zero .. but they all are worth less than reg fee ($10-15) wholesale with an extremely slim chance of selling to an end user.

The names you've posted are names most beginners buy when they start before they realise that 99%+ of domain names out there are garbage in terms of investment for reselling.

But again .. it's far better you learn this way as it costs you nothing. Eventually you might start to figure out a few names that do work and that people will buy .. and then learn from those names and upgrade your skills.

My only fear is that beginner domainers will mistake your site as professional recommendations and then buy the bad names .. which hurts them .. and could hurt you as it'll make you think they are good.

But as Andrew from @MediaOptions says frequently on @DomainSherpa .. there are indeed many bad domain names out there that can be "sold to the next greatest idiot"! lol .. And while it's a really funny and actually a very true and honest expression in this context, and can even make/save domainers money by recooping some money, it doesn't really do anything to help people learn (or at least not until they've renewed it a few times and realise no end-user will ever by that lower quality domain).

Anyhow .. good luck moving forward! :)

you may not see value in them, but they are still free and catchy sounding. i dont know of anyone else in the world willing to do this

Hello jasoncs10,

There is an entire forum here on NamePros dedicated to what you offer.
We have moved this thread to the Available Domains Names forum.

The only rule is you cannot ask for any kind of reciprocation at all.

Thank you for sharing and good luck with your venture.

Peace,
Cyberian

ok i see what you mean

now a lot of those lists truly have some worthless domain names. i saw one list that had a couple i thought were decent. i guess what differentiates mine from theirs is that i put more thought. areaselect? nuggist? i could sh*t a better list tbh

Ah, but that's the beauty of domaining, and naming in general. It's subjective. When I started a year and a half ago, I was full of brilliant ideas for names that had never been registered. It turned out there was a reason they were never registered...

The key is not to find great sounding names, but to find names that will have real value for real businesses right now. Otherwise you're spending money every year waiting for someone else to discover your creative names, and love them enough to give you a 50x ROI.

Do you have any credentials in the industry that would make people want to take your suggestions?

I don't personally see any value in the two names you suggested above.

The thing is, if a new domainer would post 1000 available domain names on a forum most likely none of them would get regged. Most people wouldn't even bother trying to look for a gem inside that big list. However, if a "famous" domainer would have posted the exact same list of names 10% would probably get registered within the first 10 minutes of posting the list. lol

Whatever your perception of his ideas, he is just starting out guys. Give him a bit of encouragement.

I think that sharing truth in a loving way is in fact the way to go. Several people didnt like the idea. The OP likes the idea. The way to get all the naysayers on board is to show them great names.
I think you are misleading when you say you are donating names. My guess is English isnt your native language, and that the misleading is unintentional. You are sharing ideas, not donating names. I think most people here would use name generators of their choice and the other NP thread with names that are dropping/expiring.

I am relatively new as well. If you think your idea is great, go for it. The only one that can stop you is you. If you start putting great names out there, people will flock to your site.

use affiliate links... done. i.e. for each domain link it to the registrar directly via affiliate and then you get paid if they register thru you.

I don't agree with you here........

Domain name business is very complex...... sometimes, you see that domain names sold for thousands, are available to register, why?

There is no quick flip unless the names are liquid..... and with the quick flip mindset, you don't always be in profit....

You can take example of the owner of Namebio, don't you think the person has good experience in domaining, but he is not buying and selling domain names, he is devoted to the website Namebio.com providing services as good as possible....

And this idea of good domain name availability can be a profit maker if done in the right way, but it needs lots of time on daily basis, good promotion of the website.

I understand that, but when I looked you had a porn name on the page.

I don't think you would get any donations, but you could get revenue from registrar and hosting banners if you can get the traffic to the site.

who cares about credentials if the name is good

you may not see value in them, but they are still free and catchy sounding. i dont know of anyone else in the world willing to do this

Of course that is true, but if you want people to revisit your site, then you need to post names that people will consider to be good quality.

yeah dude

just give me a bucket of kfc and like an hour and a half

Then definitely do that. Take 2 hours or 2 days or as much you like.
Keep doing your thing.
We would love to see your list here or on your website. Let your list talk for itself.
Wish you luck! (y) Waiting for the list

but you are not donating anything, since the names are unregistered.

I saw quite a few similar model of businesses which recommended great domain ideas to public "for free", but none of them last long. Many reasons in behind.

Recommending great ideas for free could be very challenging b/c you have to do that for long term, without any expected returns. People could take your idea without even say thank you; or you see more and more pointless to keep that activities b/c of involved time and passion without sounding return and appreciations.

however, if that is your random and holly hobby to this lovely community, and you expect no return, that could be fun.

:)))

I have seen this said many ways here at NP and as relevant as here but for some reason I really like how it's said here tonight.

hahahahahaha.

I kind of like cashreportcard but it won't be mine.
Go for it but sounds more like a twitter thing to me.

Yup, so much scorn in all these posts... :xf.confused: If you don't like the idea, just walk away, don't kill the enthusiasm with subjective opinion.

IMO, what you need to do is to find another theme or brighten up the existing one - it's incredibly dull, it kinda screams to me to leave the site...
