If you have registered a domain at GoDaddy in the last 24 hours...[RESOLVED]

...are you seeing a "live" parked page?

I regged several names at GD yesterday, and rather than the normal GoDaddy Parking page I'd expect to see after the domain is registered and activated, I get a blank page.

WhoIS info is all correct, so the domains are in fact registered to me, and I received the "Information regarding the registration of your domain" email.

However, mid-afternoon yesterday, I also received a DIFFERENT email, one that I've never gotten from them before, titled "Action needed to active domain." It was asking me to confirm my email address by clicking a link - but it wasn't one of the typical "ICANN wants you to confirm your contact info" emails.

Anyway, before doing anything, I called GoDaddy, and the Level-1 rep confirmed that it was an official email, and that ICANN has instituted new policies of verifying contact info. He said if the email addresses are not confirmed in 15 days, the domain can be taken back.

My question to him was, if that's the case, wouldn't I be getting these emails after every single domain I register?

Back to the original question: Is anyone else not seeing their newly registered domains resolve, and do you think it has anything to do with the "confirm your contact info" email?

(The only domain I'm seeing resolve is the one I regged right before receiving that email). Thanks!

Ok, scratch that.

After seeing a blank page since 10pm yesterday, I posted this, and now I'm seeing all of the domains resolve.

Strange. The rep told me their system was slow because of a lot of traffic yesterday, but I don't know if that was the problem or not.

I called 3 days ago because 200+ domains were mysteriously vanished from my account and put in GoDaddy auctions (?)

The rep told me the same thing about verifying contact email. A little shady if you ask me. No email notifications sent to me saying I had to verify my info, no warning, it took an anxious phonecall to find out what was the problem, why were all of my domains in GoDaddy auction? No clear answer from the rep.

Almost as if they do this to see who's paying attention to their stuff or not. Had I never called, what would've happened with all my names being listed for sale without me putting them there or the WHOIS details not being under my name? (It was showing as belonging to them)

For being such a big company, GoDaddy conducts business in a very sly way, from marketing campaigns to the way they structure products, pricing, wording their pitch for backorders, etc.

I like the company, I just keep my eye on them.

The problem with GoDaddy quite simply, is GoDaddy! They do things with themselves in mind, rather than that of their customers. That aside, I still prefer them over any other registrar by a long shot. Despite some of their platform and site changes of late looking reminiscent of late 90s FrontPage novice designs, as long as they keep the customer service top notch and prices competitive, I can tolerate the rest.

At any rate, log into your GD account and click "visit my account" tab, then click the green tab on the right to "launch" your domains. If your domains show as pending whois authorization, then you should also see an orange colored thin message bar across the top just above your domains list. It will read a message regarding verification and will have the option to 'resend email.' Once you verify, it should fix the problem. If it doesn't update within a few moments, simply log out and wait a minute or two, then log back in.

I quite like the blank page. Is there a way to have that continuously?

this is insane if you ask me. all my domains were showing as 'pending whois verification' status. i did the email thing several times before it appeared to work. meanwhile none of my whois info was displaying on domains i own losing who knows how many possible inquiries. i am shocked that there wasn't even an email sent out about this.

But that's just it...there was an email sent out, and that email is the actual verification. Simply click to verify and it should all resolve itself within a few moments. The whois data should be updated again once you verify, pretty much with the same speed as when you push/transfer a domain.

The positive in this for some, more specifically me, is that a few of my domains had an old email addy, which I havenโ€™t used in years. Somehow these few names missed being updated during that email change. Receiving this new update requirement from GoDaddy alerted me to the old info, and now those few names show the correct info with the rest of the Lot.

if you have 1000's of domains..how are you supposed to be able to tell which domains haven't been verified without having to go through them all? if there was an email sent out, i either didn't get it or ignored it. it should of been a big deal to godaddy. how many tens of thousands of domains will go inactive (or lost..im not sure what happens with them) when people who aren't domainers don't check their domains?

Go to the domain manager and look down the status column.

While I already verified my email address, I still see some of my domains with privacy showing "Pending Whois Verification"...

Good point. Unfortunately, if a person [domainer or not] has more names than s/he can properly or effectively manage it is a clear sign of what that person's next step, and most immediate concern should be. In the end, the burden and due diligence falls on the registrant, not the registrar, to maintain all names and keep the whois data current and complete.

I agree GD could have done more to give advance notice or alert their customers this verification would be sent out. One simple method would be for them to utilize their site-wide "Account Alerts" internal messaging center, which is built into every account. I seldom ever receive messages from them in the Account Alerts message center. Go figure!

true enough but it was never an issue until now. i might have the odd domain with a different email address, all of which are valid but now it seems the system set up with godaddy requires the usage of only one email address. the easiest way godaddy could solve such issues is to adding the status 'pending whois verification' to the advanced search option. currently all other status' are searchable besides this one.

i like godaddy and use them all the time but i think they dropped the ball on this one. i have a second account i rarely use and searched my email address connected to it for any kind of verification email and there is nothing there. i logged in and clicked resend...still nothing.

although godaddy isn't alone in this. i haven't received any kind of emails from any registrar alerting me to this change.

GoDaddy most certainly should have alerted their customers to this major policy change. To have this random email suddenly appear in your inbox with no real explanation is shoddy.

As a rule I never click links within emails. Is there another way to confirm an email with them? This new whois verification is nothing but a giant PITA. :(

When I got the email, I thought it may be a phishing eMail so I logged in to Godaddy; and at the top left of my account page was a message to click the link on the eMail to confirm the address. Simple. I did it, and all was o.k.

I feel your frustration, but since it helped me identify a few names with an old email address I donโ€™t feel it was an issue at all. However, I too was surprised by the initial request the day I received it, and even deleted it thinking it was spam. I later found it was legit, and after a simple click it was all verified. Any names with alternate email addresses will update once you receive and click the verification sent to those respective email addresses. If you notice any inconsistencies with your names like I did, then it seems more of a worthwhile update to have alerted you of the fact.

I too have multiple GD accounts, but use the same email address for the active accounts. While speaking with GD CS today they made mention that both active accounts appear fine and updates processed for both without any issues, which is the important factor for me personally.

It's definitely not a policy change, that Iโ€™m aware of, but merely a reiteration of email verification. It has always been the responsibility of the registrant to maintain current, proper, active and valid whois information, including email addresses. No one is stating you can't use different email addresses, as long as those email addresses are all current and valid. Again, itโ€™s a pretty quick and simple process.

its an icann policy change. all registrars are required to make their customers verify their email addresses when registering a domain. i haven't had any other registrars do or say anything about it though.

Just want to chime in here and say not all "emails" are getting to the customer. I have some domains with an AOL address and have been unable to get them verified. Also, the "orange type banner" is not visible in my account at all.

And you should be able to sort by names that are pending. I believe a did the print list all pages thing so I could see all names at once and then see which ones were pending.

After part of the names got approved, I attempted to do a bulk edit of about 100 names and change the email. Doesn't work. The edit box has all of the fields blank.

Anybody else having a problem with this? Over half my account is in pending whois verification even though I clicked the verify link 4 days ago. I can't transfer any domains away or push them into other accounts because of this.

Interestingly enough, I sent support a list of my domains that were still pending - and when they replied, they said they looked at the domains I specified and that they appear fine.

I logged in and sure enough all of the domains in question are now no longer pending.

Maybe it takes time to go through the system, even after clicking your email verification.

I just purchased a domain through SEDO and the seller pushed the domain to my GoDaddy account from his. After updating my WHOIS data like a good domainer, I went to change the NS and start getting traffic to our site and saw this new e-mail verification process.

I thought that was a bit weird; forcing the user to click a link in an email. It goes against everything I teach my client; never click links in an e-mail! But regardless, I received the email within a few seconds and clicked the link and waited... and waited... and waited... A good 10 minutes later, it was still "Pending Whois Verification". I decided to give it another shot before leaving the office for the night and requested another e-mail which arrived within a few seconds and clicked the link again. I took the 45 minute commute home, said hello to the family, unpacked and relaxed for a bit. All in all, it was about 90 minutes later and I logged in to check. But it was STILL "Pending Whois Verification"! Not happy. I really need the nameserver records updated so they start propagating overnight! I tried a few more times with different email addresses and then decided to put a call into GoDaddy. After the 23 minute hold, I finally got a hold of someone who had me try clearing cookies and cache, try in different browser, and try clicking the link from OWA rather than Outlook 2010. He even went as far as having me open the verification email and click the link from my iPhone over the cellular network. Still nothing. He made a call to another department who said they've seen the process take up to 90 minutes; but here's the kicker: each time you click the link in the e-mail, the clock start over.

Anyways, just wanted to pass along my findings (so far) in case anyone else comes across this thread while searching on Google for others having this issue. So I'll wait another 90+ minutes and see what happens. In the meantime, I'll be researching some other bulk-friendly domain registrars. I've been happily playing the GoDaddy coupon-code came for over 10 years, but they keep irking me with things like this... :-/

---------- Post added at 09:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ----------

Update to my post above: 40 minutes later and it's no longer in the "Pending Whois Verification" status. It's now active and I'm able to change the NS.

So, if you're also having this issue, just give it some time without restarting the clock by continually retrying.

Further, I originally had only 10 domains "Pending Whois Verification". I now have 25 domains. Maybe they are doing something right now that is pegging the servers.
