.tv If the .com sells, is it good for the .tv?

A couple of times a month I have noticed that .coms have sold for which I have the .tv version.

Do you think this increases the value of the .tv version?

I just saw that opportunity.com sold for $150,000

I own opportunity.tv - do you think this brings more value to my .tv?

What do you think opportunity.tv is now worth?

Thanks!

Hmm, possibily it can help increase its value, although as their main advertised domain will be their .com, unless you plan to sell the .tv to the .com owner.

It depends, but it certainly does not hurt. In the case of Opportunity it works. Fantastic name to run all those infomercial product videos that claim to make millions that you see late at night on TV.

Yes, it increases the value of all competing alternatives. If someone buys Opportunity.com for 150k, then that domain has figuratively been removed from the pool of available names ... somewhat increasing the value of the remaining ones. Whenever supply is limited, the price goes up given continued demand (demand = quality keyword). Basic supply/demand equation.

Opportunity.com will likely never be resold for under $150k and potential buyers of "Opportunity" will consequently turn to the net/org/us/info/biz/tv/mobi for consideration. As these get taken one-by-one, it successively increases the value of the remaining ones ... due to increasing scarcity. Collectibles, commodities, superbowl tickets, most everything is subject to this principle.

Example: Similar situation with state geo-portals, California hypothetically speaking. California.com would go for 7 or 8 figures. That's certainly out of reach for most. The .US is reserved by Neustar and used by the State of California so that one's unavailable. Let's say, for example, the .info had false trademark data plus additional fraud "issues" that made it a high risk acquisition, and the .net had been successfully in use for many years by an established company. The .mobi might be registry reserved (unavailable) ... so the potential acquisitions in a major tld have been slimmed significantly. And the remaining alternatives become much more viable premiums.

the .com owner should desire to protect their brand and go after the .tv version. They would hate to see a competiting service with a similiar domain name.

For example, the owner of contractor.com should have reserved contractor.tv but didn't. Big mistake.

That's OK. I made the same mistake. But I found religion.

Nice response Carlton,

If I can refine the original question a step further.....does buying a name, which is gone in every other major extention, but is available in .TV..........but, in every other ext it is a parked page, does this automatically attach a lower value to the site than if if say, at least the .COM was a working website?

I think the obvious answer is yes, it would give it a lower value, but I have not been around long enough to know for sure!!

I am not talking about pure dictionary names...take ALKOHOL.TV...a very nice branding word, yet still parked on all the extensions

Imo, other exts not being working sites is good for development. Either developed by the owner or by an end user.

I think that when a domain of any extension is developed it brings more value to the other extensions of the same name.

SKG, that is the main reason I reged it.
