You can do this at the DNS level. Back in the day some registries were resolving all unregistered domain requests for their tld to a landing/registration page. Not sure if thats still happening.

Registrar or registry?

The Internet is more than just the web that's visited by humans to enjoy their daily kitten pictures. Things can seriously break by making these kind of 'smart' (commercial) decisions. We don't want another SiteFinder debacle.

In 2021 we have still optional things like DoH implemented in our browsers, which may change how we experience the web in the future. There are both advantages and disadvantages related to this technology.

Great idea but then I removed my domainer goggles. Most people just typed in something wrong or followed a link do not want the name. If you sent them to a registration site they would think that the registrar is the company they are looking for.

I imagine some poor kid trying to track down his biological father. He visits a domain he knows his father once operated and he gets sent to GoDaddy.
