Firefox extension can kill typo-pages

URL Fixer is an extension for Mozilla-based Web browsers that corrects typos in URLs that you enter in the address bar. For example, if you type google.con, it will correct it to google.com

What will typo holders do if this catches on? Hope for an IE revival?

Umm, this only corrects misspellings in the .ext part of the domain, exactly like the example given. I dont think it would ever be acceptable for autocorrection of actual domain names, because there may be 5 legitimate sites which are only 1-off in spelling, or something to that effect. How would you feel if every time someone typed your domain into their browser, the browser suggested to them another domain instead? I don't think anyone would want that.

this seems to only fix typos of TLDs and country code TLDs... it wouldnt really make sense for there to be a spell check for the SLDs of domains. and as long as they stay away from the SLDs, only people typo squatting extensions (like the .cm owners) will see a huge loss.

I don't think so, .cm is normal domain and they can't treat this as typo.

As long as they only do it with just the extensions and not the domain then it should'nt be a problem for anyone.

if you type in a .cm, it seems like the program will "suggest" whether you want to go to the .com by default.

.cm isn't a regular extension. It's sort of a rogue extension setup with the sole intent of monetizing on typos by a single company. Actually it's rather ingenius.
