If big boy drop catchers aren't getting name, who/what is?

Maybe someone can answer this question for me. If I backorder a name via all the major possible drop catchers -- Snapnames, Pool, enom, Namewinner (the name is not usually on all of them, but I backorder where I can) --sometimes the name slips by all of them. What am I missing? What is picking up these names? Where else should I be backordering or what else should I be doing?

For example, two names that this occured on are animals.biz and housing.biz.

Anything anyone can enlighten me on with this?

Experienced the same thing. Mostly on the 3 character .coms. Very strange indeed. Have no explanation for it though.

There are a lot of other registrars competing for drops, and a lot of the so-called "registrars" really exist for nothing other than to pick up drops. The big players have the advantage of course due to their volume, but with so many drops every day they can't get them all..

Certain drop-catchers are better for certain extensions (this is a bit of a secret and provides competitive edge). There are several more very successful drop catchers than the ones you listed and indeed they are beating out the "big boys" as you put it. The problem, and it is tremendous, is that there is no regulation of the drop catch process and independent registrars make up rules as they go with impunity and little accountability.

Registrars are using their resources to build portfolios, warehouse names = WRONG, and auction them or outright sell them to biggest money they can find. By the time ICANN address the issue of registrars run wild, thousands of dropped domains (very good ones) will have come and gone. The stakes are going up and so are the prices as the internet evolves into the universal medium.
