I found this gem when looking for a new gtld whois website. It appears to cover all the domains which are administrated by ICANN. Which means all the new and old gtld's :) The captcha is a bit awkward, coming up after you typed in the domain name. But anyhow I bookmarked this page....

How can you tell that?

I tried it with some domains regged at godaddy. :)

if you don't know of any, their auction system is full of them

So, I don't think that is a good example. I think if you try domains registered at GoDaddy, it's going to "feel" like it's GoDaddy centric. But what happens if the domains are registered at Dynadot, NameCheap, or Name.

it pulls from other registrars, too.

the thing I was wanting to communicate is that the user does not have to go to godaddy.com and use their whois page to get the info on a godaddy domain.

if I use a whois site like "www.who.is" for example, I sometimes get a result that tells me

For complete domain details go to: ..........................

when the name is regged at godaddy.

OK. So that's a good thing, right? I hate GoDaddy whois with a vengence,

I've used on occasion since it went live. However, now I know why it's still in beta. I just got an expiration date of 1969 on a domain.

I checked that name again today. Still shows 1969. A date that old should trigger an error or two, something like an all hands on deck, red alert, lol. Registered at NS and the exp. date is 2024, according to other sources. So beware. Not ready for prime time!

Some poor person has been waiting for that domain to drop for 45 years!

I don't know about you humans, but this kind of captcha is very difficult for me. I'ts always taking me like 8 clicks before i can find something i can actually read and decipher.

I had the same experience one time I used it. I had to clear my cache and start again. The captcha got harder to read each time. But this is still quite a useful link, searching all the old and new gTLD's.

That one is especially hard to decipher. Very user-unfriendly. Probably just some 4 year old's doddles.
