This has to stop. ICANN is losing its credibility by ignoring the majority of stakeholders against this kind of policy. It is becoming utter clear that ICANN is not working for the community and all stakeholders in the market.

The increase could be, say, $10 or so per domain each year, on top of the usual $12 to $20 annual renewal fee. The exact figure has not been set in stone: it could be zero, it could be $100; it'll be whatever registrars think they can get away with.

Seems to have become a honey hole for making money for everyone except for one big stakeholder, the registrant. I wish I could print money like this

In fairness, domainers gamed the original system of low priced registration fees designed for end users and artificially drove up the prices by selling names to each other. Now, Icann is just returning the favor.

This is a great move. It will increase liquidity. Especially if it comes to the .com. If domain registrations were $100 a year vs $15. It would force more realistic pricing in the domain market and rid the industry of this lottery mindset of holding onto domains for so long. Domainers would be likely to make deals instead of just hoarding domains hoping to get lucky!
