 Pretty exciting evening for me since this was the most I've won on horses.

The Ky Derby is held at Churchill Downs which is about 60 miles from my house but I went to Keeneland yesterday morning since it's about 5 miles from my house and put $30 on a long shot horse named 'Mine That Bird' at over 50 to 1 odds and it won.

I chose 'Mine That Bird' because it was a long shot and has a pretty good record running on wet tracks and the track was really sloppy wet yesterday.

Any way, I thought it was pretty neat to win over $1,500 on the derby from a $30 bet and thought I'd post it.

Getting ready to go to Keeneland and cash in the ticket.:D

Hi Jacob, Good to hear from you.

I'm real happy with the $1,500 and change but I can't help but imagine if I had put $150.00 on it instead of $30 and gotten $15,000.00 in return minus taxes.

First thing my 9 year old daughter said was, Can you buy me a pink laptop? I say you might have to ask santa for that one. The wife says, Camping money! the son says, hey help me get some new rims and tires and now your wanting me to throw some your way:yell::lol: I'm thinking, I've been wanting a $1,500.00 set heads for my new Hi performance 302 engine. Hmmmm

Man - you'd be rolling in the dough had you put $100+ down!

I wish my dad would bet more often, he'll sit back and start rambling off all these stats of the horses and pick a winner, he just don't have the peaches to put money down - 9 times out of 10 he's right though.

But congrats man =D I wish I had $15 xD Let alont $1.5k :O

Congrats, it's always nice to catch a big longshot. (btw MTB has never run on a wet track before).

My son also picked MTB, a mere $2 across made his piggy bank stuffed to the top!

It's a nice cash, just don't go crazy if he runs in the next leg of the crown, I'd easily say he won't even get a sniff in the Preakness, but that's why they run the race.

Let us know what you pick before the Preakness!
Congrats, headers FTW!

Minors gambling is illegal, you are going to have to confiscate those winnings :p

Heads not headers :tu: Just bought some shorty headers x-pipes and flowmasters 2 weeks ago, now all I want is some better heads to upgrade the new engine. Never ends

As far as the wet turf I don't bet on the horses often and when I do it's usually at the Red Mile when it's open because It's only a couple of miles from my house so maybe the term 'wet turf' means something else, I have the ky derby program in my hand and it says Mine That Bird has won $374,381 in it's life, $70,000 on turf, $304,381 on Wet turf and $0 on dry dirt. I thought wet turf really meant wet turf but if your correct then maybe it's a type of track and if that's the case then I guess it was just a lucky mistake

Let me know what wet turf is because that weighed on my decision along with being a 50 to 1 long shot.

There is no such thing as "wet turf" MTB has never run on the turf, He has only been on dirt & synthetic surfaces. He has won 70K in 2009 & both were at Sunland on fast tracks (fst=dry dirt). I'll PM you a link that explains all of the notations & abbreviations. It's actually an interactive flash tutorial.

Bottom line your hip pocket is a bunch heavier :kickass:

Congrats on the $1500. Mine That Bird was a thing of beauty. Loved that overhead shot of him catapulting past the competition in the last leg of the race. Incredible acceleration.

That overhead shot was the one I could watch over and over. He made it look so easy and the way the jockey steered him through the pack was great. What was crazy about it is the anouncer never mentioned him as he was coming up through the pack passing everyone. If I remember right He mentioned him being way back at the beginning of the race but not again until he was actually in the lead. Usually when ones coming up that strong it catches the announcers attention.

The second biggest upset in Derby history and the second largest lead ever.

Bad thing is, it's a gelding so no stud money. Was only the 2nd gelding to win the derby in 50 years.
