I want 1 self-moderated topic per month

Ignore the title. I changed my mind about 1 topic per month. Instead I'm suggesting self moderated topics to be purchasable just like you can purchase a sticky topic. I don't want editing power. I just want deleting power. This could make namepros some extra money.

Can we get an opinion from Eric about the technical possibility of such a feature?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Hell, imagine the revenue from letting users *bid* on who gets to moderate a given thread ... $$$

This is about purchasing a new topic. If you go to Namepros shop you can purchase a sticky thread for 500.00 NP$:

My suggestion is to let users purchase a self moderated thread for 500.00 NP$.

I only purchased 1 sticky thread in all my namepros history. However I would purchase at least 5 self moderated threads every year.

I understand; sorry to hijack your thread with levity. I was simply speculating what the demand might be for an open market on moderator rights.

I think everyone wants one - I'm not popular at the moment.

There's likely a liability/professionalism/standards issue. If you were allowed to moderate your own thread it would STILL have to fall in line with the overall standard that NP tries to provide - i.e. need external moderating.

If you are talking about allowing self moderation AS WELL as normal moderation I can understand. You could, for example, delete my rubbish posts :) without needing to consult a NP moderator. There are advantages to this for you that I can certainly understand.

I'm not totally against it; however, it would require moderation rules. Rules such as.. if you delete a post you must indicate that the post was deleted AND why and the reasons have to be somewhat legitimate. Failure to adhere to moderation rules would make you lose the privilege. I don't think you can give someone free licence because then the value of a forum is often lost anyway.

Serious question. Could you not have your own blog that you link to? That blog would be 100% self moderated and solve the issue. I often see a number of links to blogs . If there is an issue with links - then rather than buying a self moderated thread you could buy a thread that contained and authorized / approved blog.

I'm sure you disagree with me again. I just think that moderation is a function of the owner of the site and they do a decent job of it here. To let it go might cause issues as I mention.

There would have to be a huge banner at the top that reads:

"No matter how nice you are or how on topic you are, or how valid your point is or how stellar of a member you are of np, the op has the right to delete your post(s) just because he/she dont like your avatar!"

Yeah that will go well lol

Thats not what he wants, he wants the send you to Alcatraz no questions ask button at his finger tip.

Well that's the more direct approach :) It's why I recommend a BLOG or personal site. On blogs that's the implied banner on all of them (though many ignore it) until actions prove otherwise. I always respect a blog more that allows negative comments. Most higher profile domainer blogs do.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt...

There are lessons that could be learned from such a concept. If you have to PAY for your thread then you'd be vested in its success. You'd find out that sending everyone to Alcatraz just meant that Alcatraz was a more fun place to hang out than your party of one.

Forums thrive on diversity and contribution.
Forums thrive on contribution and absorption - not absorption alone.

None of this is opinion. It's all fact :)
