Hello,

I made my first domain name sale on TDNAM a couple weeks ago. My name was listed in a 7 day auction and did sell.

I clicked the "sold names" link on the TDNAM sidebar and then clicked the "email buyer" link associated with my sold domain name.

- I then waited a week -

Today I received an email from somebodys personal gmail account titled "Important information regarding XXXX.com".
The content of the message was only one line of text saying: "Godaddy mail: XXXXXX@ hotmail.com.
I am assuming this is the email of the person who bought my name but have no way to confirm this. Nor can I confirm that the person who did buy my name has paid for the name.

I called TDNAM customer service and they were CLUELESS. They said that I should be able to see the buyers email addy in my TDNAM account. They also say that they have no way to confirm that the buyer has paid for the name and furthermore they cannot tell me the buyers email address.. WTF.

What am I supposed to do now?

Just hope that the email I received is legit and transfer my domain name to the email listed? And hope that somehow I get paid?

How can I verify that the person emailing me is the true buyer of the domain name? How do I verify that he paid?

I'm fairly certain that the transactions go through TDNAM. If it's under a certain amount they handle the exchange themselves.. If it's over a certain amount, I think they make arrangements with Escrow.com, or else the buyer/seller should. Maybe just open an Escrow.com transaction using the buyer's email and when he pays, send him the domain?

If TDNAM is clueless, I would definitely not assume that the buyer has paid, or even if he has, no one seems to know about it, therefore you probably won't get any money. I wouldn't risk letting go of the domain until you are certain that there is money in escrow for you.

From my understanding, there would not be a Email Buyer link without them paying.

As for confirming, send an email again thru godaddy to confirm it is them, and ask for push info, when they reply with the push info, you know it's them.

After the push, you get paid from GD in 30 days.

That's a good idea Yofie, I could even give them a number to reference in the email..

I wish it didn't have to be this way but we do need to be careful of scammers and apparently TDNAM doesn't see this scammers window.

The window is:

*A scammer could keep an eye on ending soon auctions that have bids.
*The scammer could look up the WhoIs info for each name and get the owners email address if they do not have private registration.
*The scammer then could send emails out to all sold auctions with "RE:Important information regarding XXXX.com" as the subject and give there email address requesting the DN owner transfer the names.
*The owner would't know he was scammed until he didn't receive payment, 30 days later.

I think that TDNAM could close this window by allowing PMs to be sent via the TDNAM website and/or allow sellers to see the buyers name and info.

Ok here's the deal...

IF the name you sold was under $500 or so, the transaction is handled by Godaddy. Once the buyer pays Godaddy, you will get an email from [email protected]. The subject of the email is "Domain Transfer Authorization". Inside the email it says something like this:

Dear Customer Name,

We are pleased to inform you that The Domain Name Aftermarket is in receipt of the proceeds from the sale of the following domain name:

xxxxx.com

Then they go on to give instructions on how to transfer. You have to email the buyer (using the "email buyer" link under the sold section) to get their desired push details.

This information is a few months old, so they may have changed the process. But basically, don't push the domain until you receive an email like that.
You can also email Godaddy and ask them if they've received payment and if its OK to push the domain.

If the sale was over $500, I can't help you because I have never sold one there for that much. All I know is that they use Escrow.com for high amounts like that.
