I need your help.

I am 17 years old, and I have come to a decision in my life. The way I look at it, I got 2 roads to go down:

Road 1: Still go by "DebacleX" and be the same kid you all know and love now.

Road 2: Go by Jacob Nicholson, turn "DebacleX" into my company as opposed to my nickname, and go down a way more sophisticated and mature road.

I feel I am holding back my intellectual abilities, and holding back how I really want to talk, due to the fact I am only 17.

There are some pros to going more mature, the main one being I will look more professional in the eyes of future clients. But also, I feel if I go down this road, I will loose touch with my childhood. But what do you all think I should do? I am really stuck on this one. I have always been about the clown look (SEE AVATAR FOR EXAMPLE) and such, but I think I should go for a more cleaned up look, shave my little stubble of a beard, wear better clothes, etc. But let me know what you all think, it would really mean a lot to me.

It shows maturity that you are even having thoughts like this, it's your decision & your "road."

either's fine... just keep in mind that in a few years, you might not want your company name to be "debaclex" anyway.

Go the second road, clean up your image a little. But of course, stay who you are :)

PS, your avatar scares me :o

I have been thinking about cleaning up the image :P

And this does not only apply to my online image either. I'm kind of the class goof off too.

I would also suggest stay who you are but to appear more professional you need to change...there is no such thing like "take this road or take this road" because you are who you are :)..but a healthy mix of both can boost you in the right direction...

And....at least once a year you can be officially the guy in your avatar....

ON HALLOWEEN!! :)

(unless you wanna scare the crap out of your neighbor kids in the night) lol

Cheers

well dude your 17 now, you can slowly move from being the class clown to the mature young adult. after all 18 is the leagal age in most states. but this dont mean you need to rush into anything. take things slow. be yourself. and allow yourself to shine.

Yes lose the clown paint it makes you look about 14.

deet said it great!

In addition, enjoy your youth. There is no reason to feel guilty by enjoying your young age, however - it means something that you're asking yourself this question.

In my opinion, that's what shows the maturity! Being an entrepreneur, I love encouraging younger people to dive right into it.

By all means, go full steam ahead, and make the changes that you think are necessary to present yourself in the most professional manner necessary.

Just a status update on this.

I am still going by DebacleX as a nickname for games, forums, etc. I am going to turn the actual DebacleX.com into my network - like links to all of my sites, I think.

I decided to go ahead and cut my hair too. I head that shaggy, bushy looking hair, and now, it's buzzed and cleaned up.

I am starting to joke less and less, as some of my jokes were extremely bad, and just getting more professional all around. I just wanted to thank everyone for helping me out in this decision!
