Consistent updates are probably the biggest recommendation I would have. As lizmarcus7 mentioned, write to your audience and be sure that the information/images are presented in a clean and visually pleasing manner!

Keep it up and traffic will come! A few of the directory submissions on this site have helped me with a bit of exposure.
