This message while not directed at anyone in general is not just a "rant" but more of a "plead" to people to step back from their apathetic attitudes and think about the state of their country.
Throughout the years I have owned many tech companies, for nigh on 13 years now I have been in custom programming and software development. I made a vow in the beginning that I would not 'outsource' my work to other countries, and somewhere along the way I occasionally did, whether out of need or just budget restraints. It was almost always a mistake.
I have no doubt that I will hear it from all my brothers and sisters in India, Pakistan, Ukraine, etc who dislike what Im saying here...but in reality...tough!
We have over 47 million people in the United States now on government assistance, we have record high unemployment rates, high inflation, and a national debt that is just out of control.
When you hire your next programmer, designer, developer, whatever....think for a second about your neighbor, your cousin, your brother, people in America who need a job, want to work, and who cannot find work chiefly because we as a country sold ourselves to the cheapest bidder.
As for American ingenuity, there has never been a time where I have opted to outsource a piece of work that has come back as good of a quality, and with more understanding than I have by hiring someone right here in the United States....Sure I might have paid a few bucks more...but I got a better product because of it.
The economies of these countries have eclipsed our own in growth rates over the last decade.
In 13 years I can honestly say...I have never gotten a single email, inquiry, or phone call from a Company in India, China, Korea, Ukraine, Pakistan, etc that has asked me for a project quote. NOT ONE! These people do not outsource their work, they better their country by bringing in the work. So when is America going to wake up and do the same? Why should I send my money overseas knowing full well, it will never come back. It will never come back in the way of spending, or project contracts.
Anyway I could go on and on...but I hope that people will wake up, change their apathetic ways, and care about what makes us the greatest country in the world again.
