I have been NICHING myself to Death!!!

I have been told
"young man go west to the Domain World
and find a NICHE and you will make $$$"

so far I have spent $XXXX...have fun but not really
any sales. I have also read GOOD threads on name
picking-choices but.......

so fellow domaineers, I need some booster help!

PLEASE showcase some of the NAMES here

you have sold to END-USERS

not to other dealers for resell.

it will help many to "hone" up the name picking skills.

thanks

dan

Hippo, maybe you've been finding niches are are too small? I don't know, it could help though if you posted some of your niche names that you've been unsuccessful at selling to end users.

I strongly recommend you put in some time going after end users before declaring yourself a failure based on a few dismal reseller appraisals.

For instance you mentioned paphian.com

How about contacting the Hotel Paphian Bay to see if they would be interested in your domain?

http://www.paphian-cbh.com/home.html

Or Paphian Media might be interested in a shorter domain?

http://www.paphianmedia.com/

There's also owners of the .net, .org, and .info to inquire with. This is just an example, but my point is there are sales to be made out there. Most of the time they won't come to you first. Stick with domains that you have a good idea that people will want or need and you'll do alright with your niches.

Another thing you can do is spend some time at:
www.whois.sc

www.domainsurfer.com (use the carat "^" to your advantage).

www.swhois.com

Look for domains that are registered either in the .NET/.ORG/etc. or that are plural or hyphenated, and where the ".COM" complement is available. This may not provide to you a single "niche", but could open up the doors for some potential End user "Quick Sales" to give you a boost, IMHO.
In RJ's scenario, attempt to make a new End user contact once per day, doing so with all of your domain names ... start slow, fine-tune your End user approach Marketing Letter, and above all else, be consistent.
Always keep one window open for Google research of "leads".
There is strength in numbers (of contacts made), over time.

I would add this: try various contact means. I would venture a guess that e-mail contacts have a low success rate. Try writing, or (if you have the guts) telephoning.

Good-luck,
ST

Thank 'ya, Apollo! :tu:
SWhois is AWESOME for finding the hyphenated versions, while DomainSurfer is GREAT at both same beginnings (using the "^") and highly related domains ... for instant entering something like "PowerHost" will bring up goodies like "PowerHosting", "PowerHosts", etc. "^PowerWeb" would bring up a whole other array ... excellent resources IMHO.

You're welcome, Hippo ... I fixed your run-a-way quote, as well.
Please let me know if you need any assistance with either/any of the mentioned resources/links. They're quite easy, but perhaps not if you've never utilized them before.
Best of Luck.

Dont buy a domain if you dont have anyone in mind to sell it to :D

Aaahh!!! Hope is the last thing we lose. Someday, somehow, someone'll again mistakenly drop his vallet, passport, documents, money, or may be... his pants... in cybermarket so you just always be vigilant to grab and get away that. While checking uncommon DNs, keep on peeping here & there for most popular names like bank, woman, girl or teens.
God knows whether right or wrong, I read somewhere that 'Passport' was mistakenly lost by 'Microsoft' and was bought back for undisclosed price. Who knows you are next finder ???

Patience is key

If you look at some of the lists of names that have been sold on major auction sites, you will not see that much of a pattern. People are unique and their taste in name selection varies. You may just have to count on luck to make sales.

I haven't sold any domain names to end users yet, perhaps I didn't put in enough effort yet, hehe.

I would like to sell ChineseHerb.org and NotebookPro.com!!

Red, the only sale that I have to date is on AfterNic Bazaar. I sold a domain that I had for one week at + 500%. That was one that I had the Pros here give me an idea what it should sell for on the appraisal forum - OmniNom.com. It went for just about 1/2 way between the highs and lows that were posted. I'm assuming that it went to somebody that wanted it for their own use.
