This has happened twice to me now!

Has this ever happened to you?

One was a 3k sale and the other as per the photo!

The buyer places a high bid, you counter offer, and then they counter offer a lower offer than their original price ... >:( but you gotta laugh  cause they will sell one day cause they are a :gn:

I've never had it happen, but frankly I'd say screw them. That leads me to believe they're not that serious of a buyer. Then again, if you liked the sale at $2,500, you should have just taken it :p.

meh by countering lower they can saysplit the difference

Usually happens when a buyer isnt serious, but wants to find out the "price". When you look like accepting, i.e. the negotiating is getting close, a low offer at that point effectively kills offthe negotiations.

I think you may be right. :]

I think you handled the negotiations responsibly. There was not a lot of difference in the price when the buyer suddenly dropped to 1k. Forget it.

Now the buyer has come back and offered 2.5k .... I counter offered 10,000 Euro > Final Offer ... I can play games too! Not too fussed about losing the sale.

This has happend to me before.. Don't be greedy! I had a $5k offer and I countered at $6.5k, I then countered at $5k and the buyer never replied and I lost the sale. A month later I ended up selling for $3300. :td:

You sell at an agreed price - the price at which both buyer and seller are satisfied.

I personally would not deal with so called buyers who counter at lowered prices - but that's just me.

When I buy a domain through Sedo, it always works if the seller responded with a personal note, like the one you mention above "what if we just split the difference", that note often made the deal. Communication, even though it is a bit hard in Sedo's system, really helps in making a sale IMO.

If the buyer counter offers with a lower offer than the previous one, there is only one thing to do: break off negotiations. This buyer is a clown and you have to take yourself serious. You did the right thing.

QUOTE]

Trying to understand this from a buyer's point of view, a couple of things caught my attention in the bidding history:
-You seemed very eager to sell the domain as you always countered immediately after getting his offer, instead of giving it some time. This would suggest to me that you will probably settle for a much lower price. The buyer was clearly in control of the negotiations here
-Once the buyer offered 2,500 you dropped from 5,000 straight to 3,000 which suggests that you would probably settle for even less, and the 5,000 was just for show
-Unsolicited, you lowered your price even more when you did not hear back from the buyer, to 2,750, which gave the buyer an advantage, and suggests your previous offers weren't serious, you were just playing around, and that you would now settle for the 2,500 actually
-The buyer got tired of games and said so by placing that 1,000 bid. That's what I definitely would have done had I been the buyer

Based on this information, I think you should have agreed to the 2,500 and made the sale....

I don't know what the domain name is or any other details, so I'm not criticizing you, just offering another possible viewpoint here.

Good luck with the name.

the object is always to close a deal.

I hate it when a domain is listed at a price i.e. 700, and you bid 700 , then they counter your first offer (which was what they wanted) with an offer like 12,000, this happens to me a lot, i used to think that if they list a price you might be able to buy it, they just use that tactic to lure people in to start bidding, so i just cancelled when he raised his bid. what a jerk, i dont think i'll ever buy a domain on sedo.
