I Hate PayPal!!!

I sell auction software for $7. Since it is simply a PHP script, I email the files upon receipt of the payment. Well recently, I have had two buyer complaints. One of them was from a person on AOL who claimed I never sent him the script. Well I sent it to him on my AOL account I checked the status of the email and it was read, and so was my followup email that I sent him, but he never responded and never dropped the case. Unfortunately there was no way to provide proof to paypal, so I had to burn the files to a disk and ship the CD for $5.25 so I could provide a tracking number. I ended up winning but I only make $1.75 on the sale. Then recently. someone purchased the auction from me and then called their credit card company saying the purchase was un-authorized. Paypal gets involved and it takes paypal a month to resolve the case in the Buyers favor, so now I had to refund the $7 as well as pay a $10 fee.

Also, PayPal was charged a settlement fee. As a result we debited your PayPal account to pay for this fee.

This is unbelieveable. I know its not a lot of money, its just the concept that pisses me off. Everyone try and stay away from Paypal if you can. If you need it, don't leave money in your account. They like to freeze accounts.

I guess I have a question... is there any way for me to prove that I sent the script via email or will I have to ship the item every time someone files a complaint against me???

Yes some people get what they want and then say it was stolen so that in the end they get it free.. PayPal does not do nearly as much to verify a credit card as they do verifying the bank accounts.

Absolutly,Consumer fraud,And they will also say the a product was broken when they recieved it,And refuse to send it back,It's getting to be a bad situation for buyers and seller alike.

Isn't paypal owned by Ebay? Seems like someone could create a website just like theirs (you know what I mean) and pretty much take them over (you still know what I mean)...

Not really - Especially in the eyes of PP and Ebay .... Electronic Tranfers of info etc ... are just not covered. You could make the buyers download the items from your site - But this will only increase your overhead - and PP still will not cover you. !

Tons of buyer protection - No seller protection ... I had one that said a piece of electronics was Destroyed in Shipping (I Had plenty of insurance on it) - Then refused to take it to the local PostMaster for inspection ... But they still wanted a refund - and would only send the product back if I did refund first.

Yea, It would be nice if paypal had some sort of service where once the payment was sent, download information or whatever you are selling (information, scripts, etc) would be sent from paypal's email to the user this way paypal knows that the information was in fact sent. If there is a complaint, they can review the email that was sent and see if it contains the information that was purchased. There have also been times when I have gone to send the information, but I get an email saying the email doesnt exist! What am I suppose to do? Luckily most of the times they buyer emails me and I can send it to them. Seems like the only way a seller is protected is to use snail mail... but that offers no protection for the buyer. Eh, I guess there isnt really anything anyone can do about it.

I haven't had any problems with paypal and it makes about 2 years i'm using them.
Its the best one i found.

When you sell like 500 scripts a month you don't notice things like that.... proven fact: 5-7% are scams.

I don't do scams, but i sometimes sell ebooks on the old ebay site...most things are a complete wats of money, and some are scams...ah well, you gotta live with it... some people are frauds

well till you have faced such problem you will not believe.. there are lots scam being in paypal....

recently i have lots $150 and $20 and $20 i got the money after four and five days in each transaction... they said this payment are given from fraudent bank account...

be carefull and always transact with verified buyer

only physical goods are covered in protection.. not services... and other stuff

the only way I can think of getting around this is by encoding the files with the likes of zend or ioncube and have it do a check back to your site to ensure that the licence is valid (much like vb does)

that way youll have your own logs. there ip. there location. there email. as well as the web server logs

now what would be good if you could email the buyer via paypal. that way they have there own logs of the message (you know like you can on ebay with the "ask seller a question?"

I have the same problem when I sell downloadble software, buyers screwed me over regularly so I just stopped selling.

Even if you had your own logs, paypal still wouldnt care. Like you said and how I said before, the only way to solve this problem is to have paypal email them the information once they complete the purchase.

yes as games says adam_uk this would not stop a chargeback as paypal would not accept this as proof as there is no tracking number etc.

Clickbank seems to specialize in downloadable products. Are they better for this then paypal?

Gah, Paypal needs to learn how to implement some seller protection. I guess the reason they still havent yet, is they have a monopoly on the online money market.

I presume the reason they have not Darkfire001 is because if they do not side with the buyer all the buyer has to do is reverse the credit card transaction with their credit card company and that costs paypal (and the buyer) alot more

I dont think it costs paypal, they just debit the fees from the seller!!!
