Well, I'd be stupid not to take a chance on $300 million for just a dollar! I got my Powerball ticket this afternoon and plan to take the lump sum ($157 million) WHEN I win! ;)

I'd spend the rest of my life seeing the world.. in luxury, of course!

Does Powerball run for all the states involved as a shared jackpot, or does each state have there own?
As we do not have it in WA, but Idahos says its 231 million?

Powerball.com reports it at $300 million, otherwise I couldn't say. And lump sum is $145 million.. I was wrong at $157 million.

I played last week. Obviously didn't win.

The odds of winning are 1 in 146,107,962.00

I think this might be the week.

Funny thing is that even when it is only $15MM it is worth that $1. I have always had to chuckle at people who see the powerball get up big like this and suddenly they have to play. What? Like the $15MM would not change your life either?

My next favorite thing to chuckle at is those who think they have improved their odds by buying more tickets. You improve your chances with more tickets but never your odds.

And yes, I will be buying my usual $3 worth of tickets.

Here is one for you though, if you won the money would you take it in a lump sum or would you take the annuity, which is 30 payments over 29 years?

Remember that while the cash portion of the $300 will be close to half of that, you will pay more then half in taxes between the fed & state.

It's odd. I think 250k could definitely change your life too. :)

I might take the cash option. I haven't decided, because of taxes. Regardless, its a ton of money.

But first I have to win it.

For me, with the odds against winning being so high, I rarely bother to buy a ticket. When it goes as high as $300 million, I'd be stupid not to take a chance!

I'd definitely go for the lump sum. I don't expect to be around another 29 years to collect it annually.

When I think of how much good I could do with this kind of money locally, the mind boggles..

Yep, I can't start to count the numerous things you could do. I'd probably build a new school in my town.

Proper health care and food for those who need it would top my list.. too many who actually need these things can't get them. I'd also invest in some sort of world class facility or enterprise here to help the local economy.

I don't need $100+ million for myself.. $1 million would see me nicely for quite a long time.

You know what's funny is that my wife and I talked about this once, the last time it was this high and both of first thought of community based needs before our own.

I guess with that kind of money you just know that you will be good to go but there are so many others in my area that need some help. We have been big supporters of the Women's Shelter, I truly believe that the first thing I would do is buy/build them more spaces and then set up special trusts that would fund them and allot a certain "per person" fund for those looking to escape the cycle. You know, starter money that will get them good and gone and help them start a new life.

I think with the amount that could be won right now I would be able to fund something like that. When I was working with our Teen Court I would get a lot of the kids coming from homes filled with domestic violence so we got involved with that. From there I became a counselor and while some of those coming through were truly sorry and will never repeat again the majority of them deserve to spend their every waking moment behind bars for what they have done. You cannot simply imagine until you have done a tour of one of the homes doing an assesment how bad some kids/women and even some men have it. I did see abused men while I was working with the justice center.

Good news Dave! I just received an email stating I've won the Union Australian Lottery out of 250,000 total email addresses that were in the drawing (even though I'm not Aussie). The email said I won 2,000,000 Euros ($2,383,916 USD). It's not as much as your $145 million, but it's still a nice chunk. This is the best spam I've received yet....so just stay hopeful as dreams due come true! :D

I wish you the best in tomorrow night's Powerball drawing, Dave. :)

I'm sure it will be someone who doesn't need the money again like most times it is. Someone who already is financially set usually seems to win when the pot gets this high. :(
