I typed in my first name into the Godaddy search bar and saw a list of TLDs with the appropriate renewals. I was surprised however to see several names listed as premium with fat renewals. Imagine how much it would cost to hold these names for five to seven years.

.club is $349.99/year
.online is $5199.99 / year
.video is $149.99/year
.space is $699.99/year
.studio is $299.99/year
.guru is $44.99/year
.fm is $169.99/year

Hey the .UK and .co.UK are $6.99/year

.online certainly seems quite the bargain... Perhaps not.

I don't even like it as a TLD at all, too long. Anything over 4 characters just looks long winded and ugly, IMO.

I always wonder what ordinary people think when they type some domain name on godaddy, and they get suggestions in new extensions, at crazy prices. Not exactly the best way to win the hearts and minds of customers.

if there is a thing that end-users hate more than paying for domains it is paying for premium renewals.

Imagine how much it would cost to hold these names for five to seven years.

No thanks. it's so painful that I will skip that one.

Of course several years ago someone searching for a domain at Godaddy would have been presented with dozens of premium listings instead of dozens of new tlds. I believe that is one reason why premium listings sales have declined.

Leave it to godaddy to want to rip someone off with stuff no one really understands.
