Hi one and all,

I am about to lose 3 precious domains (Domain Names). 'Precious' - totally IMPO. What do I do now?

Last year (I am referring to year 2015, as the year '2016' has just passed by, a few days ago), just last year, I came to know about domain name buying and selling or in short - Domaining!!!

As a novice in Domaining, I went on a buying spree and registered a few sucking (please read as useless) domains last year - in December 2015.

And these domains (the hopeless ones) were up for renewal late Dec'16 and early Jan'17. Those that were worthless, as per my studies/evaluations, here on this forum, were decided to be Dropped. And those 'Precious few' (again IMPO), were to be kept and renewed.

I kept those that were decided to be kept (and renewed them before expiry) and I deleted some that I personally thought were worthless.

Now, just a couple of days back, I got a shocker - Those domains that were very dear to me were not available for renewal. I had missed that deadline (of 365 days) to renew them - But I am still aware that there is still some grace period to renew the already expired domain names. I kept on searching the next day - or perhaps another day later for those .IO domains on the dashboard of my registrar - I could have mentioned the registrar's name here - but I am afraid that, that could lead to some unnecessary complications to the issue. If permitted here to mention the registrar's name - I will do so.

I fully remember that I had not at all deleted these 3 precious (IMPO) domain names - I had just deleted the ones I thought were worthless. And these 3 domains too got deleted automatically. How can that be possible?

I contacted the registrar - for 20+ hours, there was no reply. Then I contacted the NIC.IO the Super Registrars (I frankly do not know what they are called - so I call them the Super Registrars, here).

I got a reply saying like this:

Hello,

You can transfer the domains into your direct management at NIC.IO using
Domain Owner's Password and then renew with us.
To do it you should set Domain Owner's Password at
https://www.nic.io/mailpass.xzx and then use this password to transfer
domain into newly created nic.io account.
More details in the FAQ entry at http://www.nic.io/faq.xzx#transfer

We remain at your service

Kind regards
I tried everything that I could, or was told to do, but in vain.

Then, suddenly, I receive a mail (approx 22 hrs before now) from my original registrar:

As I can see in the last few days there were some domains deleted from your account. Also included is your domain 4Dxxxxx.io.

But we can still try to restore the domain. The price for .io restores is 100$. If you want us to restore "4Dxxxxxx.io" please reply to this email and we will create an invoice. After this invoice has been paid we will try to restore your domain. A renewal is included in the restore fee.

Here is the full list which domains were deleted from your account in the last few days:
2017-01-10 12:30:05 xxxx.org
2017-01-10 12:30:04 xxxxxxxxxx.net
2017-01-09 02:01:06 xxxxxxxxx.co
2017-01-08 02:00:08 4dxxxxxx.io
2017-01-05 02:00:41 xxxxxxxxx.io
2017-01-03 06:00:14 insurancexxxx.xyz
2017-01-03 06:00:09 xxxxxxxxxxx.download
2017-01-01 02:01:05 xxxxxxxx.io

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

And, if I need to keep these 3 .IO domains, I need to pay US$100 per domain. Is that worth? Or is that justice in the first place??

Please help!

A fresh NEW reply from my registrar a few moments ago - This is really more shocking - JUST 2 days as grace period???

The .IO domains expired and the .IO domains have only a grace period of 2 days. For.com, .org, .net... you have 35 days.

The Domains were deleted because your credit card expired last year (I had changed my Credit Card, as the useless domains were also renewed) and you hadn't enough account balance to renew the domains.

Unfortunately they are currently in the redemption period with the registry. That's why right now only a restore would be possible to get the domains back.

You can also wait 90+ days and the .io domains will be deleted by the registry and you will be able to register them for the normal fee again.

@sanrb -
Please go to https://www.nic.io/cgi-bin/whois and let me know the actual date of expiration AND the "Redemption Grace Period Ends" What is that date?

The IO rules are very different from all other extensions, and even if your registrar is trying to hold your expired names hostage, you can force the transfer through the registry, it's awesome!

nic.io is the REGISTRY

namecheap godaddy namesilo etc are REGISTRARS

Okay. I do not think I should wait any more longer than this, here. If I have to lose these domain name, so be it.

My domains that are discussed here are: these 3some
gifograph.IO
4Dprints.IO
Erectile.IO

And As suggested by @usernamex - "Thanks" - I have checked as mentioned by you. What do I do next to keep them?

OK relax you will be fine - if you want quick edit and delete your names

Since your current registrar will not show you the Auth Codes individually, you have to use the BULK Auth Code function and they will send you a list of all your Auth Codes
They hide that info to try and force you to pay their restoration fees

Once you have the Auth Codes you should have no issue transferring to another registrar, NameCheap is $32.88

IF for some reason that does not work, you can follow the instructions you were given by nic.io and move them to direct control (it does not cost anything to do this) then move them as a paid transfer out to registrar of choice.

HOWEVER - you might want to recosider and post in the IO thread as it is my opinion that your names may not be worth holding on to

The adult one may be tricky since nic.io is very strict about adult content so it would have to be used in a medical context

Were you using them as developed assets? I don't think any of these have much in the way of non-sentimental value. Best of luck regardless!

I am not sure even a medical use would be allowed, you should ask the registry directly, and even so it might make it more difficult to sell.

https://www.nic.io/rules.html

6. APPROPRIATE USE
No .IO domain may be used, directly or indirectly, for any purpose that is sexual or pornographic or that is against the statutory laws of any Nation. In the event of NIC.IO being advised by any party that a specific site breaches this condition then NIC.IO reserves the right to immediately deactivate the offending registration. The applicant may seek the reinstatement of any suspended domain name by seeking a determination by an Arbitrator appointed by the World Intellectual Property organisation.

@usernamex - You know what? - I will be ever grateful to you - for this kind help. I will TRY all that you have suggested - and as far as - Erectile.IO is concerned, its purely Medical - Erectile Dysfunction - IN short - Erectile.IO - That must not be a problem.

Thanks a ton!!!

So many .io's will drop daily. Please try to reg a good one for normal price. Please check with some veteran whether they are good to hold or not.

Why NOT? Why not a domain name for medical uses?

That's exactly what I am trying to do now- right here. Do you think that there are no Veteran/s Domainers here or not- Keep it aside- there are a plenty. Thanks anyways for your inputs.

Just ASK nic.io to be certain, I just don't want you to pay money then have a problem later, if they say it's OK then you are all clear, because they make the rules : smile :

Here is a proper medical term as well

Domain Status : Ban/Disallowed

Personally, I would let these go.

Not the greatest terms for the dot IO extension.

Considering the relatively higher renewal fees for dot IO, I would save the money and invest in something else.

Honestly I don't see much value in those domains, but from what I read you're attached to them, I don't belive anyone will backorder these 3 domains when they'll become available.
To backorder them you can use park.io, hopefully there are no opportunists seeing this thread to try reselling them for profit.

Good luck!

why don't you take the 300 you would pay to renew these and buy a 4L.com instead?

Use this opportunity to let go of them and good riddance! Stop wasting money and invest in .COM's! :xf.wink:

What are "4D prints" anyway? Interdimentional printing? Do you have a target market in mind, like who in this universe would buy this from you?
