Okay, I know we've beaten this hyphen horse to a pulp but I just can't find the answer to this particular scenario. So, I hope y'all will still take a swing at this one! :tu:

This is regarding a domain name where the keyword is seen with a hyphen as often as without a hyphen. I'm using "WiFi and Wi-Fi" as the example. :) Here goes...

WiFiblah.com is taken, so which would be better to purchase next...

WiFiblah.net

or

Wi-Fiblah.com

So, it's hyphen vs. NET... which is better... which is worse??

Thanks!!!

I would definitely go for .net.
Hyphen really sucks IMO.

I'd go with the hyphen and the .com.. I'm not real big on.net and I own several hyphenated .us (keyword phrases) so.... I'm biased.

The search engines won't notice the hyphen anyway.. if you think users will type it in with the hyphen, go for it!

I am inclined to agree with you. Assuming one has wi-fi.com rather than wifi.net, the user is more inclined to enter wi-fi in the search engine, and either on the browser. sometimes I think the anti-hyphen brigade have their heads firmly buried up to their necks in the sand....

Well I think there is a big difference in the things we are talking about. I think in general, a lot of people will say that keyword1-keyword2.com is better than the .net . However, I think this is different when keyword 1 and keyword 2 are not words by themselves. To me, something like wi-fiphones looks weird. IMO it looks like the prefix wi, and then the word fiphones, which makes no sense. If both keywords are words, then go with the dashed .com , but if one, or both keywords are not words, go with the .net IMHO.

Agreed.. in my case, I couldn't get keyword phrases like free-coupon, free-ebook, etc without the hyphen so I took them with... hyphens don't bother me really in any case.

Exactly. I didn't have any specific domains, but these are all great examples.

freecoupon, freeebook,
...in both of the above examples, I would like to know if there is anybody who would still prefer the .net without hyphen over the .com with hyphen....
