How Would You Interpret This Offer?

This may qualify as one of the year's most frivolous posts, but... I rcv'd an offer for a name listed @ Sedo w/ min in mid-$xxx range for $1 above mininum. Usually, an offer in this price range will hit the min. dead on or be above the min in incremnts of $50-$100. I've tried to put my feet in the buyer's shoes and don't quite know what to make of it, other than the obvious- they're offering me $1 above my asking price.

I know we can't read the potential buyers mind, but is there any sort of signal that comes to mind that might be read into this?- ie willing to go a little higher? -or- this is it, not $1 more?
I'm fairly certain about my call on this, but my curiousity is piqued and I wanted to run this in front of some other sellers who may have rec'd similar odd-ball bids that of only $1 or a few $'s over a listing's min bid amt.

Hmmm - Does seem odd - Maybe it is just to make you happy to get an offer above minimum .... :o - Weird style though

I have to admit I have never seen or heard of anything like this. So I'm not much of a help.

Weird...Pretty much sums it up.

See it as something positive. People put in weird bids on ebay all the time. It's (a little) more than the minimum you wanted for the domain, so accept if you want it.

I don't see anything crazy bout it at all.

I think the potential buyer is trying to tell you that that's as high as he/she is going to go. I learned this the hard way. I had a domain listed at TDNAM with bid/counter offer and buy it now for 1k. Got a bid for $326. I countered at $425 and lost the sale. I suspect this is the same sort of message the buyer is trying to send. Let us know what happens please.

I'll take all of the offers that I can get- with or without craziness attached... :hehe: All I ask, is that they be valid, righteous, genuine offers. I'm a bit gun shy in that area, due to my 2 most recent encounters.

I don't read too much into aside from the fact that they didn't want to offer any more than they had to, at least at first...
If a minimum offer is $100 on a domain (That I think is worth somewhere in that range, or a little more), I'm in no hurry to offer twice that as my opening, even if I would go that high later on.

If you set minimum price at say $500 and the guy initially bid <$500, I believe Sedo has a screen that tells the bidder they must bid $500 or more. I am guessing that the guy who offered on your domain bid lower to start with, saw this screen, and decided to be cute and offer $1 more than your minimum price. The guy may bid higher, he may not. My guess is as good as yours on this one. You can always counteroffer...

Thank you for your post. From what I see, they may be testing the waters if others will bid higher. Another way of saying, Is there anyone out there still interested? OR something. At least that's how I see it. And if others bid, I am sure they will either bid higher or simply watch it rise.

Just let it go normally. They may act as "catalyst" to start a reaction or in other words, start the ball rolling.

I wish you well.

:)

This was just an unusual or peculiar opening bid amt., based on my previous experience, so I thought it was worth kicking around a bit. Good responses, all.

The name is in a category that I view, more or less, as fixed so I set the mininums at what I want, but still have some flexibility. I accepted the initial offer on this one and will post the particulars, here, after escrow closes.

Good thinking, but, alas, our posts crossed. I am fine w/ the amt on this one, but am very curious to see the reactions once the name is revealed. That's part of the fun. :hehe:
