So I want to put some of my domains up for sale or auction. I do not want to pay for a service if possible although if it's important then I could pay a small fee. I have an account with Sedo, are they still any good these days? What other companies should I use?

What are some steps the pros take to market your domains for sale? Do you make a for sale page on the domain or do you leave the site as it is? Do you contact companies that might possibly have a use for the domain?

Any other tips would be great thanks!

I'll just add this to the thread. If the OP's user name reflects the domains, they'll sell themselves if they are one word dot com, and can be found in the dictionary.

They would sell on here for free although you would get much more from end users.

Different selling platforms work for different domains. Can you list a few on the thread ?

Best,
Paul

Yeah Paul but sometimes selles actually want a specific price for their names and all one word .coms are not created equal. I bought one here for 25 USD yesterday and I am also selling one for 325k for a client. Pretty big gap there.

So what the name is really paramount to be able to give correct advice. Seems like the OP does not want to share. So he can figure it out I guess.

Embrace fixed to price if you really want to good price of your domains Flippa.
If you have a great domain name it will sell. Also be your own promoter! Link your ad to sites you frequent so it gets a larger exposure since not everyone knows about sites like Flippa dot com and GrabThe dot com as well

I stopped using Sedo when they insisted that they paid me in Euros. I've always considered that to be a useless temporary currency, It was created to devalue the under-valued DM, and was destined to create havoc. Why they couldn't have paid me in US dollars or Sterling I'll never understand.

thanks all for the feedback.
From the feedback and studying the links then these places are the best places to sell:

GD
Afternic
flippa
Sedo
Uniregistry
Efty
namejet

My situation is that I'm selling my property (real physical home) and then I plan to go buy a piece of land in the country. To sell my home I need to spend some cash and spruce it up a bit, that is where the domains I have come into the picture.

So I need to sell them quite fast so this is something I have to get moving along quickly. I do not think it will be easy and I do not underestimate how difficult it could be but I would like to try at least.

Unfortunately they are not one word .coms. Keep in mind I'm looking to sell to end users, not so much domain buying pros. I mean if you were to sell your used car would you head to a used car salesman who will offer you a low price so they can make a huge profit? For example with a car domain I could make an email list of all the car sales companies that could possibly be interested in my domain and then email that list. Do any of you do this sort of thing?

Here is the list of the domains I could possibly try to sell, if anyone would like to put a fair asking price for each one it would be helpful. As I said I would be looking to sell on auction sites or direct to end users not looking to sell here but always open to offers if anyone wants to PM. Please do not pm asking for a price as I do not know yet. That is where I hope some can give me some guidance.

Most domains are aged and have a website with some small traffic at least

16 year old One word .com
Glinted com (extremely brand-able for things like jewelry brand etc)

12 year+ old forum can be used for a variety of subjects (good backlinks and traffic):
ProductionForums com

Good image hosting domain
FreeImagesOnline com
HDRPhotos.org (organic traffic)

Motorcycles:
TotallyMotorbikes com (good organic traffic from original articles)
MotoxCenter com

Domain-Coupons.net
WebhostCoupons.net

Highend (potential to make top money from high paying affiliate sales):
HighendDirect com
Highend-Computers com
HighendLaptops.net
Highend-Guitars com
Luxury-Jewelry.net

T-Shirts:
TenTees com (top branding potential)
ShockingTshirts com (top branding potential)
EcoTees.Org

Australian Car Business Set:
SydneyAutos com
SydneyAutos.Com.au
SydneyCars.net.au

Others:
RightMobiles com
Organic-Cuisine com
OrderFlowers.Info
SydneyTravel.info
AustraliaDining com
PhilippinesTravel.Info
ChefCooking.Org
SkaterGarage com
RazorBuy com (some affiliate sales, huge potential)
TotallyCameras com
TotallyCycles com

those are some pretty major contradictions in there..

ie:
try to sell quickly... to endusers... for nonliquid domains.

imo your best bet will be to be working very hard at outbound.. compiling lists of potential companies.. as your chances of quick sale, to endusers, for nonliquid domains ... for inbound only.. are virtually none... the keyword being again "quicksale" cause obviously if you put them up on auctions and can wait and renew in years to come, then you shoudl eventually get your inquiries.

gl!

You need to let buyers know the restrictions of purchasing a .com.au such as trademark or Australian Business Number requirements, otherwise they can lose the domains

to sell properly, you have to get better domains

those won't get it

imo.....

Just going to add to the thread. Biggie has a very good point.

The successful people in this business made money though buying - not selling domains. You could equally argue that those days are long gone.

Just saying.

Best,
Paul

did not realise it was a competition to who has better domains,. in fact im not in the domain business, im in the website management business, what some might think are useless domains might be what someone else wants. I have learned one thing here and that is never to tell others what your domains are as you will be judged and then put down.. People requested i name my domains so I did hesitantly. My request was to ask for help in how to sell my domains not how good my domains are or what the quality of them is compared to others.

Unfortunately to know where and how to best sell domains, one really needs to know the type and quality of domains in question.

There is no magic end user auction platform. What you're looking for unfortunately does not exist (if it did we would all be millionaires .. lol).

End user sales platforms do exist like GD, Uni, Sedo and the rest .. but they certainly are not fast to attract end users. They say a typical portfolio sells 2% of their inventory a year .. that means an average domain sells once every 50 years (because most do not sell) ... And while you certainly do have a couple solid names .. the other names are under par and likely will never find an end user.

As @alcy mentioned .. the honest truth is that most of your domains will not find end users quickly unless you aggressively contact them yourself with outbound sales. But even then .. most of the brandables you have aren't really suited for outbound.

Don't get frustrated or take offence ... most domains owned by most domainers here fall into that same category.

If you're really in a hurry then focus on doing outbound for Glinted, ProductionForums, SydneyAutos (if the term auto is used more than car in AUS) and maybe AustraliaDining.

Not really what you wanted to hear I'm sure .. but it's reality. Also remember it's just an opinion and more importantly you could always get lucky! :)

Good luck with them ... and let us know what happens!
