No. Redemption period is the last chance to restore the domain by paying a high fee. When in pending delete, the domain is scheduled for release, therefore you can't keep the original registration date.

there is no way to save the age of a "pending delete" or dropping domain. You can save the age of an "expiring" domain....

You can backorder it.

You can backorder it.
You can backorder it to make it yours the moment it drops, but that will be the new registration date.

how come the date on my networksolutions domain (1999) was saved when I did a Namejet backorder? I swear on this, I backordered it, and when I won it - it still said 1999 once they transferred it to me.

That's probably because it wasn't pending delete.

It was not a pending delete but a prerelease. technically it never expired, it's just that renewal wasn't paid by the former owner.

I hav one on backorder now that is in redemption from 1996 on ENOM, and its looking alot like its just gonna drop and get caught... (via namejet/pool/snapnames - all 3). All the staff at Namejet said they can't save the date now? I am so confused on this creation date saving issue... If a backorder is placed PRIOR to pending delete - the date is (almost) always saved?

So only certain names Namejet publishes as "PRE RELEASE" and nobody else backordered it even though it was a published redemption domain?

take a look at:
http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/gtld-lifecycle.htm

When you look at last arrow which is "Pending Delete", this is stage where date get lost.

Namejet have some Contract with some Registrars to get domains to be auctiond (i think in "Auto Renew Grace Period", and maybe in
"Redemption Grace Period" aka PENDING DELETE RESTOREABLE)

Look also at bottom BLUE ARROW = Pre-Drop Alternatives
