How to proceed?

Based on the assumption that once a domain goes past it's expiry date it cannot be pushed I would like to know what is the *right* way to proceed w/ following scenario:

I auctioned off some names that were about to expire at recent NP auction. They were listed as expiring in June. I proceeded to make push/transfer, GoDaddy showed (and still shows) "change in progress" for the names. However, I had neglected to take the lock off, and unfortunately, GoDaddy, does not show this status after initiating a transfer. The names just expired and now are in redemption, and it is my understanding that I can't push them now w/o renewing.

I recieved 350 NP$ for the names, and now am looking at about $40 to renew them so that I can make the push, obviously not a good deal from my end. However, the auction did state that the names were about to expire. Who should be responsible for ultimate payment for the renewals? "Right" is not necessarily always fair, I realize, but would like opinions on what is right in this case and will propose to buyer a course of action based on the concensus here.
TX and beware of forgetting about locked domains, at least at GoDaddy.:( :D

I am sure you already have, but inform the buyer of the situation and ask them if they will consider voiding the auction, perhaps a little compensation for the hassle too.

I havent been in this situation, so can only give what I think I would do in this event.

TX. In this instance, I was teetering on making a decision of whether to renew or not, and decided to put up for auction at last moment. A combination of indecision and forgetfulness- I had bulk locked the names a few months back, and had not made any pushes in the interim. I did however make a few sales where I had to unlock names, and should have remembered.

Although it is your 'fault', it is a genuine mistake.

I am sure the winner of auction will understand the situation and perhaps come to a compromise. What has the winner said so far?

No response/passive to explanation of situation thus far. As to the question of whether or not GDaddy transf. init. recieved, member hasn't received anything, yet. Which raises another point, I did PM member that I had initiated transfer morning after auction and never recieved a reply indicating that transfer initiation request had not been recieved. Only caught that this was not a done deal after requesting a Trader rating update.

Excerot from my PM morning after auction 6-11, 11:48AM:
Have transferred names to you.
350NP$, although am not sure.
Have a good day and make sure to renew names today or tomorrow.

Another one of those "unique instances" that I seem to fall into once in awhile. Hoping that there aren't many more of these left to turn up.
BTW, member is reputable and have no problem at all, in that regard. Just looking for guidance as to what is the right way to handle this.

Would be a great help if GDaddy would warn that the domain is locked when transfer request is being initiated, rather than showing that "changes are in progress".

Agree w/ Rob on this one - I think most enjoy the Auctions and this Seems pretty fair - especially on lower priced Domains.

Right- I see a NP auction more in the light of having fun, but they do, in fact, encompass transactions, that reflect upon how one does business, and I want to stay as clean and clear as possible in that area. HoweverI don't want to be overly or unnecessarily accomodating, either.
Anyways, I've PMd the member a link to this thread, and when he gets online, he'll have something to look at.

If the buyer fails to accept the transfer, Its their fault. There have been quite a few transactions where the buyer has failed to accept the GoDaddy transfer from me. No email or respone, nothing. But I have accepted payment. Its not the sellers responsiblility to hant down the buyer and make them accept the transfer. After about 2 weeks I consider the transaction abandoned and put the domain back up for sale. If contacted by the buyer I will refun their money. (none has yet to come forward)

I make every effort to complete transactions even if I must track down a buyer. It's all about reputation and customer service to me.

I have one domain with a godaddy/wwd reseller that's in a similar situation. The seller initiated the transfer, but I have not received godaddy's email instructions. Seller has made several attempts to contact GD support, to no avail. The domain is about to expire now, and we'll probably just let it drop.

Therefore, GD is cr*p in my book. :(
