How to get a top-site started

I know about the mechanics of getting a Top-Site going, but getting moving in the right direction is another matter.

I have bought a good domain, going to use the Aardvark Topsite script, and going to be sure to modify it to match my niche.

However how do I get the first x number of sites so that it starts moving. No one wants to join a topsite that has no members/traffic.

I have a number of sites that may be able to get some movement, but not enough.

Any tips?

Get good content or make sure you're offering something people want!

i agree.. the content is extremely criticial.. do something on a daily basis so people see that you have something worth looking it.. then the sites will join.

So something like a story on the niche, or a Webmaster article, something along those lines?

I will give that a shot, how about having the toplist not on the homepage, maybe a list of the top ten but have that in the sidebar or something. Then have stories, news, tools, etc as the main part of the homepage.
