Do you guys think it's beneficial to send out emails on a Friday morning, just before the weekend? Or is better to wait till Sunday night?

actually i don`t think that better you send emails when you think it`s fit.No need to wait for sunday night.Rest it`s depends person to person what he wants to do.

I sent out several end user letters to high profile multi-billion dollar companies. I have only owned the domain for less than a week. Yesterday I received an email indicating that a "domain manager from a web design company in NY was contracted to purchase the name for a client". They offered an extremely fair price (no negotiations) but very, very fair ....

The only problem is this:
The domain name for the web design company was very crappy.
They said they were from NY but whois indicates Belguim (where the high profile company has an office).
The website is down for maintainence.
IP leads to GoDaddy so I assume it is a Godaddy hosted website.
One word was misspelled on email.

My Question. Since all of the companies I am dealing with are high profile is it possible that they went through all of this to intentionally look less, um, professional? I know there are many scams out there but this would be a new one to me since they made a solid offer with no negotiations. I treated them with respect and accepted their offer. I am waiting to hear back from them.

Thanks for any replies

BTW, I will not accept Paypal for payment nor push first however they did say that they generally utilize wire transfers for payment. Any possible problems with this?

If it looks like this its prolly a scam! Not confirmed yet tho, but I am researching it.

Here it goes - email recived 12/01/2010... sweetalk:

Hello,

I'm the domain manager of a webdesign company in Manhattan, NY.

One of our clients would like to make a generous offer of 3000$ for the the domain (DomainInCase.whatever) you purchased on the 10th of january.
Our payment options are bankwire, paypal, western union & moneybookers.

If you are willing to sell your domain for this amount (non-negotionable), please get back to us asap so we can make all necesarry arrangements!
If we don't get a reply (pos. or neg.) within 3 days, we'll start looking for another domain for this project.

Sincerely,
bla-bla name
bla-bla website
bla-bla email

I didnt post any names or links from signature 'coz I didnt confirmed its a scam, but yeah, their site is down and whois records are Belgium, their website is one year old domain, and google cashed pages from this site surely doesnt look like "webdesign company in Manhattan, NY."
I am 99.99% sure its a scam or other kind of fishy business altho I cant get it what they are trying to accomplish here... so BE AWARE!

I did reply it on 14/01/2010, agreed on price, with request for escrow with their fees, then again on 16/01/2010... so far no answer...

I will move this in scam section in a few days if they dont provide some answers, and I am pretty positive they will not, I wish I was wrong and in that case I apologize, but .. it seems I am not ;)

sorry for the long post, imo, better to raise some heads now.

Yes, that's the one. I sent out a handful of end user letters for a generic product domain that was an exact match for a multi-billion dollar company so I was holding out hope that they intentionally down played who was making the offer. After a little more research I have seen this posted on other forums.

The only thing that I don't understand is the "angle". My wife and I have spent days trying to figure out how this person is trying to scam. We still don't know because there wasn't a follow up email.

If it looks like this its prolly a scam! Not confirmed yet tho, but I am researching it.

It's a shame that there are so many scammers out there its scary that the person on the other side of the message aren't usually who they pose to be, so it just shows to look out for the little details in people's messages which can sometimes give away hints.

@btb well done to speaking to one of the largest ice cream companies in the wold may i ask what the domain was?
I recently bought a book called business writing its sort of a sleek handbook which is a guide to speaking business the way it is set out and how to say things good book I must admit!

Hilarity. No thanks.

Hello people...

Im trying to reach some end users but i have a problem!

My email account is from a company that only work in my local town and have no name outside my country like AOL or companys like that, and i have been use the gmail. Offcourse i haven't get any response, sometimes they maybe don't wanna do any deal, but im afraid that all my emails are going to junk by spam filter.

So, what is the best way to go? Use the email of the domains? for example:

general(@)domain.com?

Im really lost here!

Congrats anyways :)

That's like putting in alot of effort I believe and I'm sure it is very much required. I think I will follow up with one of the prospect buyer who emailed me few days ago asking "how much" for a .com name

But did you share your list of sold domain names with us? I'd like to have a look at them and then know your strategy on those kind..

cheers

Got a question, when you guys send out emails to endusers, do you send them out manually one by one meaning typing in the email address, copying the email subject/text, sending email, then repeating. Or do you have an email software program that can send each email individually where you can just add a bunch of email addresses & the program will send each email message one by one individually?

If you are using an email software program, let us know which ones please. I've been sending out emails individually by hand & it's very time consuming so am looking at ways to speed this up.

Supposing you have a four letter acronym that just happens to correspond with an established forum,marketplace...
Posters in the forum often refer to the forum by the four letter acronym, but officially the forum uses the four words spelled out or a subdomain.

The forum, marketplace, business is probably the best potential end user for the domain name.
Should you try to sell to them?

If so, how would you go about offering it for sale, without getting caught up in UDRP threats and all that good stuff.

I suppose keeping the asking price under the UDRP filing fees would be one consideration.

I got a question on contacting an enduser who do you usually contact the whois registrant, or the e-mail posted on their site, or both? Say its a really big company like a bank.

Thanks for your inputs guys.

I go for both, that's what makes it way more time consuming as after the whois search you gotta manually type in the web address, then try & find the "contact" page. I find many times the whois email is not the owners address but the company they regged the name or webhosting company.

I try and get the contact off the website. If it is a larger organisation then they often have company profiles which will tell you who the marketing manager is. If the marketing person's email address isn't listed, you can try looking at some previous press releases. Sometimes the contact details for the marketing manager are there, sometimes they aren't, but often they will quote the marketing manager and at least give a name.

Most of the notifications I get from when emails didn't reach their destination have been from whois contacts.
