Dear Sir,

Thank you for your time. I understand and respect your decision to keep all marketing ideas in house as this saves money that could be allocated in other areas. With that said we've lowered our asking price to $1,200.

If this still is unreasonable for you I understand and we will cease all emails to your organization.

Their Reply:

Ok, I may be personally interested. Where is it registered and how do I proceed with the transfer?

I explained the transfer process. I'm now in the 2nd step of Escrow.

that one was beautiful

"I may be personally interested"... :gl:

The best way to sell a domain name for an optimal price is to sell it to an end user who can make the most of the domain name.
Whoa... but finding potential end users it takes greater rejection you have to knock down on the road to find them... yes it is profitable you have just be more appealing to catch end users attention.

I sold a very generic ice cream domain to an ice cream company yesterday. I sent out a well crafted email. The response is below.

Mr. Washington,
Thank you for contacting Haagen-Dazs® Ice Cream. Your offer to share your ideas is certainly appreciated.

For legal reasons, we are unable to accept unsolicited ideas from outside sources. We have our own in-house Research and Development department that works year round to improve our existing products and to develop new ones.

In order to avoid disappointing those who have contacted us in good faith, we feel it best not to ask to see the details of their ideas. Although we are unable to consider your offer, we thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Sincerely,

That was conducted eloquently and professionally. Well done!
I'm astonished you sold to Haagen-Dasz, which is one of the biggest Ice Cream companies in the world. Once again, well done!

has anyone had any success having a simple page on the domain saying that the domain is for sale and a contact form ? Is anyone using technique with his domains or are you keeping them parked somewhere ?

I have most of my domains on Parked.com with the simple text "This domain is for sale" and get inquiries frequently via the contact form.

How quickly can we reply to a "how much"? Is it best to wait a day or so? Sometimes the "how much" email comes minutes after sending the pitch.

I have many 1 page sites that are for selling that particular domain. Some have links to my domain on afternic, Godaddy direct email and forms. All my offers so far have come from the domains with a contact form. One domain in particular has got a high off of $600 but asking for more ;)

Soon i will stop parking and do 1 page landers for most unless I find a good use to develop which I have a few of those as well.

interesting....i've got most names @ parked too, but none have "this domain is for sale" on them. won't that lower your CTR? i should probably do it though..

I get a few "sorry too much for me, good luck finding a buyer" responses without a counteroffer. Do you still try for a sale but at a sizable reduction? What has been everyone's experience with this?

When I get those replies I send back,"If the price is the issue, what is your best offer and I can take it into consideration."

Need a little help

I sent out several end user letters to high profile multi-billion dollar companies. I have only owned the domain for less than a week. Yesterday I received an email indicating that a "domain manager from a web design company in NY was contracted to purchase the name for a client". They offered an extremely fair price (no negotiations) but very, very fair ....

The only problem is this:
The domain name for the web design company was very crappy.
They said they were from NY but whois indicates Belguim (where the high profile company has an office).
The website is down for maintainence.
IP leads to GoDaddy so I assume it is a Godaddy hosted website.
One word was misspelled on email.

My Question. Since all of the companies I am dealing with are high profile is it possible that they went through all of this to intentionally look less, um, professional? I know there are many scams out there but this would be a new one to me since they made a solid offer with no negotiations. I treated them with respect and accepted their offer. I am waiting to hear back from them.

Thanks for any replies

BTW, I will not accept Paypal for payment nor push first however they did say that they generally utilize wire transfers for payment. Any possible problems with this?

If they don't come back with "need appraisal" which just means appraisal scam...
I don't see why bank wire would cause alarm.

Also, you can suggest escrow service from escrowdns.com sedo.com or moniker.com

Good luck.

Good luck.

wire transfer seems to me the most secure way to receive payments. like Copper said, if they don't come with appraisal requests or other "entertainment" actions AND if you find the price good, then go for it.

if you use an escrow i would not recomend EscrowDNS however. they are very inexperient when it comes to internation deals which is not reassuring even if the deal is been done in the US (they are also for sale... the business i mean). better use Sedo or Moniker. Moniker seems the most secure because they lock the domain at their account/registrar during 2 months, if i recall correctly.

tonecas

just dont go first about it, let them send payment through legit means and confirm it with self before pushing domain name over to you.

rest, good luck with it!

I've found wine domain pitches to have a very low response rate. Probably the vineyard and wine business owners get many solicitations.

Do you guys think it's beneficial to send out emails on a Friday morning, just before the weekend? Or is better to wait till Sunday night?

Keep us up to date if you get a good response but I was thinking about it and it makes sense to assume that winery and vineyard owners are used to domain sales solicitations.
