NattyDomain - I've found picking up mini-industry category killers off drop lists to produce portfolios with lots of prospects at minimal cost overhead. One prior example is my WarrantyAdministration(dot)com, which I flipped within a week for 100x the reg. fee I paid. My latest purchase was a category killer for a much larger industry (though known primarily throughout rural areas) that I won for $79 and would be surprised if I couldn't flip for at least $2.5K. I've assembled a list of 320 industry players with websites -- all prospects for that domain -- by combining results from Google, Yahoo!, and an online directory of sites serving that industry. PM me if you'd like to know the domain name. Also, read Ripley's post - she makes some excellent points and for many of the reasons she states, you need to take Estibot's appraisals with a grain of salt; Estibot doesn't consider that "localness" factor as well as numerous other complex properties of domains only humans can judge. I find it mind-boggling that Estibot values WarrantyAdministration(dot)com at just $100 but, say, NewItems(dot)com at $37,000. Good luck finding a client willing to hand over even $3700 for the latter.

adavita - PM me and I'll send you the latest version of my template. I'd rather Google not index it.

I've sent some emails this morning, but I realized that I can't receive any email because my email provider has some problem. What is the best way and what to write to communicate an alternative email adress to the enduser that I've contacted for the first time?

Do you guys have any statistics to prove that Rick Latona is the best domainbroker? Or is it a matter of liking the man/name?
Could it be that he gets offered the best names?
To me the best domainbroker would mean something if one offers the same 1000 domains to different domainbrokers and see who brings the best results.

Having a big name might be a handicap if customers have the idea that you are a smoothtalker who is not cheap/probably too expensive, but could also trust you as the "big name guy" that might charge too much(even he does not influence the price), but not deceive you.

Yeah, I'd kinda like to hear of some of his sales

1. How many domain brokers have a special slot at TRAFFIC?

2. How many domain brokers actually get an inventory for said auction thats of this calibre - http://www.ricklatona.com/auctions/submission-form/inventory-new-york/

3. How many domain brokers can sell $700,100 in domains in a few hours? http://www.ricklatona.com/2008/09/26/auction-results-and-final-thoughts-nyc-2008/

Very valid points which speak for Mr Latona and his reputation, what about people who do not have these great names but names of lesser quality. Is he still "the best" to go to or can you mention some others who might be more suitable to go to?
Also there may be some brokers who do less self promotion than Rick does and not make public when they broker big(or many) dollar deals.

If you guys think some of your replies to sales pitches have been harsh, check out this one I received this morning:
---

Sorry your out of dam mind to think any one will pay that much for that domain name. This industry does not have anyone that would want to pay that much for that domain. All the people doing [...] are very small business people except for a couple. I am one of the largest companies and I would not even looking at it when I can buy similar domain for less money. I don't need a name like [...].com because I can set up a web site with a similar name and get the same results as far as search engines go. As far as your figures go you are way off on how much money is generated in the business. You have no clue and are just trying to make a bunch of money selling a domain that will not produce what you say it will. You can keep the domain as far as I am concerned an I will be telling others not to suck into your bullshit. Bernie

well, i myself have only BEGUN to send out emails for endusers in the last few days, mostly regarding LLLL's but also some keywords, and so far my responses have been mixed, ranging from NONE - VERY prompt and polite 'no, but thanks' - 'let me think about it/ how much?' - to offering me $25 when they have a lesser extension parked with a $500+ price tag..... no sales yet, but feel things are warming up at least. Kinda' like the saying with wood..... warms you (at least) 3 times, not just once. Just don't want to die of heat exhaustion while I am at it!!!!!! sp

Brokers generally only broker big names. They work off of commission so why would they want to sell a domain for $100 when they can do the same work and sell one for $100,000? Most brokers like Rick only accept the very best when selling and often times only try to sell what they know they can sell. So unless you got some great generic or revenue names might as well do the work yourself.

LOL!! This guys grammar alone cracks me up. Tell him if he's so rich with his "one of the largest companies" then he should have some money to invest in English lessons. Don't let his judgment bring you down, brush it off, laugh at it for a minute, and move to the next one..

Like everyone else I send tons of emails to companies with offer to purchase my domains. How do you deal in a situation when multiple parties contact you at the same time willing to purchase your domain with the price you have set for it? Do you sell on the "first come, first serve" basis or you use some other technique? Your thoughts will be highly appreciated.

[drivel snipped]

I had one lady to tell me to "take my scam elsewhere."

It made me laugh though, honestly. Then there was the guy who countered my price with 10 pounds. ...........

At least he was sorry about what he was about to write

I would simply reply with:

Thank you, your honest opinion is appreciated. If there is anything else you would like to share, I will surely take it into consideration when marketing future domains in your industry.

I have to ask, what was the domain name?

There's a lot more to this story. These guys have actually threatened to blog extensively about how unethical a man I am, and they sound pretty serious about it. More on this interesting development to follow (perhaps in a different thread).

Meanwhile, I've sold the domain to an isolated business. I'll post the name once escrow completes.
