The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Update: Last night sold the same user another two related names for $50. Total three names, $150. All hand regged. On a side note, he told me he bought one of the three not because he wanted it for himself, but because he didn't want his competition to have it. It's not a bad sales tactic -- i.e., if you don't snap up this name, then your competition might. :)

Not so lucky with my other domains unfortunately. I've now put forth about 7 names to various sorts of endusers; that was my first success. Back to the drawing board.

Yeah, I know a lot of web developer that adopt this tactic too.

Congratulation on your third sale :)

SellingMy.com Launched

After a 48 hour marathon session of building (and learning to build) a wordpress blog, I've launched SellingMy.com as a blog for end user domain sales.

Please let me know what you think - suggestions, tips, ideas, speeling errors, whatever. A lot of the current content is stuff I've written in this thread, but more fresh content to come.

Thanks to Josh for selling me the domain!

Mark

Awesome stuff! You've just broken ground on your blog and already I can gather some excellent tips on selling to end-users. Your blog fills a gaping hole in the domain industry. I'd be curious to hear your success rates on using the e-mail templates you've posted.

As per a Google search, it looks like SellingMy.com sold on Sedo about a year ago:
http://www.DNF/f178/sellingmy-com-sedo-auction-thread-239038.html
http://www.namepros.com/domains-for-sale-external-auctions/348990-sellingmy-com-on-auction-sedo.html

I wonder for how much? SharonTucci would probably know.

Strange the new owner let it drop. At least we know the domain's in good hands now.

Thanks Josh! I PM'd Sharon just to let her know the outcome of her domain.

I'd love to have you guest post any time... let me know.

Mark

PS - still working on the email templates, I need to get more of them out.

Does anyone register the .INFO version of their domains if they're available and offer them as a free bonus?

Maybe I should add something here:

Also, I advise that you proofread your email before you send it. I personally find typos to be a sign that the seller is a little kid or too stupid to do business with. If I receive an offer that contains a billion typos (and lacks professionalism), I delete it without consideration.

Or in the case of multiple typos, I tend to fall upon the assumption that the writer was in a hurry and wouldn't take his time to present himself professionally. That's a major no-no if you ask me.
On the other hand, the more recipients act to delete the email due to typos and grammar, the fewer potential buyers remain. This, plus the probability that the seller is not very sophisticated or is in a hurry to sell, could actually represent a better-than-otherwise price and opportunity to the prospective buyer receiving the email.

So, may be, contrary to instinct, such offers to sell should be opened and read for possible unusual bargains. Whether this hypothesis bear out remains to be verified by experience.

Wow, I just checked out MarkP's site and I am blown away, not only by the advice given at SellingMy.com, but also the entire setup of GeoBroker.com. I can't imagine an enduser NOT wanting to buy domains from you!

Excellent work, MarkP! :)

if anyone is thinking of setting up a sales site to atrract endusers or even wants to get a reseller account selling domains, i have the perfect domain, a 7 year old gem:

acheap.com

think how memorable this is and how great would look in a logo, it's not 'cheap' :hi: , but if you're interested shoot me an offer :sold:

Mark, you might want to add the information in my latest post to your blog:
http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/516046-indigenous-cctld-versus-com.html

The post contains a measure of ccTLD loyalty for each major country. It illustrates that if, for example, you own SomeDomain.com and have two potential end-users in mind -- one who owns the SomeDomain.com.au and another who owns the SomeDomain.in -- you're better off spending your energy pitching to the SomeDomain.in folks.

Thanks all for the feedback! It has been a fun few days bringing it all together.

I have a mad dash this week - heading to TRAFFIC in NY. Anyone else going? I'd love to meet any of you.

Josh I will get your post up as soon as I can get to it.

Thanks again,
Mark

I have been reading this thread all weekend and decided to test what i learned last night. I sent out about 25 emails for 5 different domains and got 1 response yesterday evening. I followed up with a price for mid $XXX but have yet to recieve a response from the buyer.

I have a few domains that have potential end users but am afraid that i have exhausted all my options by sending out emails on a sunday night...should i resend the emails later this week or next?

i will continue sending out more emails when i get a chance, its hard because i have to sneak them in at work.

thanks to all that have contributed to this thread...especially Josh, Ripley, Arnie and nattydomain.

Good luck with your sales.....As far as tweaking what I learned here this is my schedule for sending out emails...again this is what I do so you must do what works around you.

All times are MST as I live in Arizona

Sunday Night 8-9pm
Monday - Thursday 5-6am
Friday and Saturday I dont send any....

If I see that a email is based out of the US then I may wait until Later in the night due to it beign about a 8-12 hour time diffrence so when I send at night they recieve during early business hours. Had a reply this morning for 1 domain but they advised are not buying domians now but still wanted to know my asking price....Which says to me "if your domain is cheap sure I will buy it" Hit them with $200 so we will see

I sent out 21 emails this morning to potential end users using a self revised template from this thread:

Hello,

I am a web developer from Denver, Colorado. I am releasing a handful of my premium domain names to the public over the next few weeks. The one word domain name xxxxxxxxxx.info [in bold] is available for acquisition. If you are interested in acquiring this domain contact me via phone or email. In the case I do not hear from you fairly soon I will move along to the next candidate.

Best Regards,
xxxx

Received 2 replies so far with asking price. One did not respond to my price yet, the other said she will have to pass but thanks for the note. This all within 4 hours of my emailing.

My strategy is to send out emails M-Th (sometimes only M-W) early in the morning (MST) in hopes it is in the right persons (decision makers) inbox so that when he/she first checks email in the morning will see my message.

Nice approach..Would like to know what your asking price was for a .info domain. I myself am sticking to selling only .com right now as .info could be "unheard of" to these end users.

I only try to sell one word .info's to end users with that word already in their current domain name. Usually, it makes lots of sense for them to want the one word .info version as their current domains are usually long and hard to remember. My asking price is just under $4xx for this one.

.com, net and org make up all my current "end user sales" so far though..

I sent an email pitch to several companies, planning to sell one of my domains in the mid $xxx price range. However the company that expressed interest so far sells products that start from $3000 and end up to $250000!!!! What would you do???? Staying at your initial price expectations or go or the big money?
