Good luck with your sales.....As far as tweaking what I learned here this is my schedule for sending out emails...again this is what I do so you must do what works around you.

All times are MST as I live in Arizona

Sunday Night 8-9pm
Monday - Thursday 5-6am
Friday and Saturday I dont send any....

If I see that a email is based out of the US then I may wait until Later in the night due to it beign about a 8-12 hour time diffrence so when I send at night they recieve during early business hours. Had a reply this morning for 1 domain but they advised are not buying domians now but still wanted to know my asking price....Which says to me "if your domain is cheap sure I will buy it" Hit them with $200 so we will see

Thanks for the time schedule natty! I just moved to California so I always forget about the three hour difference. I have bought a few dropped domains today with some nice potential.

WHen you guys buy dropped domains what is a good # of endusers to solidify the purchase? Right now if I see more than 10 really good potential I am buying.

Depends. Are they a well-established, proven, successful company? Do they publish or advertise their annual revenue anywhere, and is it a multi-million dollar figure? Does the domain unequivocally embody that company's core mission, or is the name only tangential to their objective?

My two biggest domain sales to date fulfilled two of these three in the affirmative, and those domains went for $1400 and $800, respectively. If the answer to ALL three questions is definitively yes, you could shoot for a mid-$XXXX price.

The answer to that question will solidify with experience.

There are actually times that I backorder a domain I have only one 90%-certain major prospect for. A personal example from a few weeks back is FilterMagazine.com. The magazine's previous site, Filter-Mag.com, received over 20,000 monthly hits according to compete.com; furthermore, the mag's existing domain name was crappy, and mine was precisely the name of their magazine. I GD-backordered FilterMagazine.com, caught it, and sold those folks my domain for $500. Piece of cake.

On the other hand, in many instances I have mistakenly backordered a domain I discerned 50 "maybe" candidates for, one recent example being Panama-Realty.com. I thought it would be a breeze to sell -- wouldn't you? I pitched to all 50 candidates and received NOT ONE response asking for price.

When it comes to deciding whether to backorder a domain based on the magnitude it targets candidates, I recommend opting for quality over quantity.

When I buy drops there are certain factors I look for. Mostly geo related and product. When I hunt for my prospects I do a google search to see how many websites have THAT keyword in the domain name itself. its easy to find a TON that have the keyword somewhere on their website BUT think its a much easier sell if the keyword itself is in the domain name.

Also a question for anyone on the board. I have a .com that I got several months ona drop and the .net version is a company...has had the domain since 2003 and the website is on teh crappy side. How shold I approach them to have the .com as their business is waste removal and not sure if there tech savy based on their 1 page website?

I'd approach them with the same generic e-mail pitch you've always used. I often like selling to small, family-run businesses because they usually place contact information for specific individuals on their website. Those contacts will typically respond quickly and, sometimes, even at ungodly hours.

Offer the name for a modest price ($100-$200) and explain that when someone is told to point their browser to a [domain].net, that viewer very often goes to the [domain].com by mistake since .com names are by far the most popular and well-advertised genre. Hence, by not possessing the .com name, the company may be losing out on a substantial chunk of business via Internet.

I try to do a full page which is 25 but im starting to think maybe I need more to cover the ones who wont respond. Often times the right domain I feel is for a big multi-million dollar company like some of the food domains I own but hell good luck on getting the marketing directors email. This is my dilema (sp) right now...the amount of emails to send to for 1 domain. Let me share one of my domains and maybe yo uall could help.

The domain is a bbq geo domain. Now it comes up with a few wesbites that have both the city and the word bbq in it those are my first choice. Then it would be reg bbq companies in that city but who dont have the city in the domain name. Then there is the bbq companies themselves the bbq sauce companies, meat companies etc...what would you do?

In this case I owned the singular .net + .info ($7 total) and sent 3 emails: singular.com, plural.com and plural.net

Once I get payment I will list the names, I just hand reg'd them 2 weeks ago, I was surprised they werent reg'd.

I have been trying out other names like: bluffs :; info and hve sent out about 20 emails but have recieved no response thus far.

Has anyone had luck with LLLL.com/.net? I have alot of them and was wondering if anyone had any good success rates with them?

I would send an email to all of them ;)

The problem with short domains is that you need to know exactly what could be the meaning of the acronym. It's really hard to find domain in this form: SomeAcronymGoHere.com to offer your short domain... this is the only problem I've found with this niche, but we all know there are plenty of company with looong domains that would want a short domain for their company website :)
The problem is to find them :P

Btw I prefer LLLL.com/net/org with "i" at the end, so you can search "LLL" Int. on Google :)

Well, I guess this is a dubious milestone -- got my first nasty email response today, taking aim at domainers in general as "con men" who need to go "get a job" and talking about all the domains he had purchased way back when that he doesn't use. (Made me wonder why, then, his domain was ABZ-INDUSTRY.COM....)

It offended me at first, then made me laugh. It was literally a several-paragraph email; why waste your time? *delete*

I only got those from the prolife crowd when trying to sell a prolife domain :hehe:

One of my prospects, the head of an IT consulting firm, responded to my pitch that she was interested in my domain, then a few days later spat back she was "disgusted" I conned her by registering a domain and trying to sell her it just a few days later (in reality, the domain was 5 years old, but it dropped and so the creation date reset). She then proceeded to twitter many of her friends that I tried to "shake [her] down", and unfortunately Google picked up on those twitters and they came up on the first page of matches upon a search for my name. Not surprisingly, my sales dropped off precipitously for the next few days. A week ago the twitters all mysteriously disappeared from Google, and BAM, in flew the sales again.

My only other truly acerbic response was "you are a parasite", from a certified female veterinarian.

These observations have made me consider (jokingly):
1. Using a fake name when sending out e-mails
2. Not selling to women [ EDIT: meant in the most facetious and endearing possible way. Having gone to college directly across the street from Barnard, I'm about as feminist as they get :) ]

I just made my first domain only sale ...

I bought this great domain chlamydiatesting dot com for $20

I googled chlamydia testing and started on page ten of the results and worked back to page one in sending out a sales letter to all who were legitimate online laboratory/medical sites.

I was offered $909 in US Dollars by a UK firm and gladly accepted the offer. Was just paid and transferred it over today.

I'm definitely going to be spending more time pitching to possible end users. I sent out a lot of emails and it took me several hours, but it was obviously time well spent.
