The thing to do is check through your members first.
You will know who is dedicated to your site and pick one you can trust. Then start them off with limited powers and see how they do.
The most important thing is to not have too many Mod's right at first, and ONLY the ones you would trust wholeheartedly.
It's a tuff call, because as one promotes it can make other members (not selected) jealous.
Keep these things in mind when making your decision.

Good Luck,

Cy

I agree. Start out with your members. I have run forums in the past and there is always someone willing to be a mod. I usually find a couple of people are already trying to do mod work while they are still just a member. People like power and special titles so you wont have to pay them

One thing I forgot to add, the people that constantly ask to be Mod's you may want to consider motive.

It is hard to to find people that will keep your agenda first and formost, so you really have to trust your gut when making this decision.

If there is a glimmer of doubt....
trust your instinct.

What you dont want to get into is changing Mods constantly, it gives the members the impression of weak management.

Start with someone you know well, and add as your Forum grows.

Again, Good Luck.

Peace,
Cy

I agree with Cyberian 100%. If it's just a small forum, start from your member pool and find dedicated members who look like they really care about the forum.

Once the forum grows and a moderator's position takes lots of time and effort, than you can turn it into a paid position.

Keep it real and don't look at the $$$$ figure to much. People would rather help you out who are close to you, than someone who is just looking for cash.
