Hi,

I want to implement a forum (preferrably an old, free version of IBP, OR SMF but not really sure yet - NOT phpBB) with my website, DomainTops.com. However, I don't want to have to make users register with the forum seperately.

How can I get it to use my existing members database? Could I perhaps PAY somebody to do this? I don't have much NP$ OR money right now...

Thanks,
-Matt

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

My guess would be to point the forum at your original database of users, and alter the original database to include the fields needed for the forum.

That's a lot of work :-/ How much would a programmer charge to do this?

Depends what forum you are going to use. If you use an old version of IB I can do it for around 25-35$
SMF would be abit easyer but still around the same price.

It would be easiest to do it the way Shorty said.

I would just write a script to transfer your member database over to the forum database, then edit your current site to work with the forums.

have a script run each page load to grab the stuff on your main db to auto singup if its not in the forum user db heh

Thats the easiest way haha

but of course... thats extra queries that could be avoided.
