    Hi guys,

I hand registered a city+restaurants.com geo domain. it's valued at $450 on Esibot. The city population is ~5,000 (it's a California town). Do you think Estibot's appraisal is accurate?

    Thanks

@Blues Brother - You have been a member from 2013 and you have to ask if 'Estibot's' appraisal is accurate??????

An Estibot appraisal (just like those from Sedo, GoDaddy, etc.) are as worthwhile as looking at the entrails of a dead goat!

On second thoughts perhaps looking at the entrails is more appropriate and accurate.

If you are buying it as an investment I wouldn't do it unless it is a metropolitan city. At one point I ran a network of over 450 restaurant websites and about 200 of them were city name + restaurants.com. After I stopped doing business with the sites in 2010 or so, I kept all of them for a few years, then the better half of them until 1-2 years ago. In that time period I think I sold 1 of them in the $1,000 plus range.

    So they aren't big movers.

The accurate information displayed is the cpc, the broad and exact searches. The price won't be accurate. Plenty will come here just to bash estibot.

I like it as a tool, but too many sellers value the the automated appraisers like it’s Bible, Torah.

Estibot is not accurate however is the best automatic tool available.
I use it to have an idea, better than nothing.

I think Estibot is better than other ones, but it is not always accurate. Therefore, to evaluate your domain make comparison by looking at the other domains sold, which are similar to your name or niche or location, … etc. included in your domain.

It breaks my heart when I have people reach out to sell me names, talking about how valuable their names are because some automated tool told them so. It's like Jack with his magic beans, except the beans never germinate.

It's borderline sinister how these tools will spit out massive valuations, and then include unlabelled affiliate links that pay them when you try to buy or sell the name. On Estibot, you can type in a totally gibberish unregistered name, and they have a call to action to send you to Afternic, where you can spend $60 for "help" buying that name. For me, personally, that crosses a line.

I have valuation.site that will tell you a lot more. I guarantee my price is wrong or no where near but offer more information. I am told how inaccurate it is so must be useless.but look at what data is offered and a free backlink.

It's all factors game. Automation tools takes search and cpc as the main factors. But, they miss many other factors too. Which is obviously not easy to program/code. So, prioritize your own knowledge over automated tools.

    • It is only for reference, the actual value of the assessment is not desirable
