How much for a website ?

Hey everyone ! Here it goes... Sorry for my bad english :P

What do you think should be the criterias for putting a price tag on a website ? What is the standard price ? How much do you charge ?

I know it greatly depends on a large number of reasons, so please be as specific as you can

Also... examples of sites you built along with the price they where sold for, would be very helpfull.

Are you talking about selling an excisting site or developing a new one?

When it comes to developing a new one, it all comes down the number of hours spend on the project. A contract can specify a fixed number of hours and thus a fixed pay or it can leave the number of hours open (for bigger projects) and only specify an hourly rate.

When it comes to selling excisting websites things that matter are the domain name, traffic (page views, unique visitors, returning visitors), monetizing abilities, business model, target group, age, technical specifications (how the website is build and on which development platform) and there are probably a bunch of other issues that matter which I am forgetting about.

Don't forget that a website is only worth the amount of money someone is willing to pay for it. This sounds perfectly logic, however there are still many people who think there are, more or less accurate ways of predicting a price for a certain website. Believe me, there aren't. Non of these methods will result in real-life numbers about what a site is worth.

The best (and only way IMO) way to find about what your site is worth, is putting it up for sale and let the offer role in.

How much per one unique visitor ?
How much for a lot of other things, you can think up
