use muwordpress (multiwordpress) to use one installation for many blogs
you'll just need one installation, one database but different data tables
it depends on your daily visitors and your php values --> max_user_connections

if the sites are not well visited or if your visits are spread over a day then you wont have any problems

just try to run as many as possible, dont forget the content
once there is a site that is running very good switch to a real host and try to increase your income by adding more content / better designs

Yo will have a couple of bottlenecks as you increase the number of wordpress installations.
One will be the CPU/memory usage. If you are on a shared host they will have limits on the cpu/memory usage. You will need to check this with the host.
Another thing that might cause issue is concurrent Mysql connections. That won't be an issue until your blog has a very high traffic.
If you are just going to start the blogs, there won't be any issues. You can go ahead with the installations.

Your issue is going to be CPU and memory before you're going to run out of space. This will also be dependent on the amount of traffic the blogs are receiving. It could take one blog to use a lot of CPU due to it's traffic or it could take thousands of low traffic blogs.

I think that it depends on CPU or RAM limit on certain package.

I don't think it's really possible to answer this question, the thing is that you can only make some approximate conclusion on the disk space, but that's just part of the process, another side is CPU and bandwidth you will need to run all your blogs smoothly.
Your server will be short of processes sooner that you will run out of space.
