I'm really new at this so please help! :hehe: Let's say I want to sell a domain I registered for, and I paid for 1 year...if I sell it to someone for a certain amount, I only have to give that person the domain [name] without the hosting, right?

Also, how do you transfer the domain from your host to theirs - or will your hosting site and their hosting site do it all for you?

Thanks. :)

:hi:

Unless you are selling it as a complete website you will not have to worry about transferring hosting etc. The easiest way is to do a "push" to their account if they are registered with the same registrar eg. if the domain is registered with GoDaddy you can push it to their GoDaddy account if you have their account details. View your registrar's FAQ/Help area and you should find the procedure otherwise contact support. It is fairly easy for most of the major ones eg. Fabulous, NameCheap and some of the others only require you to input the new owner's account name and then they will do the push.

If they are transferring the name to a different registrar this is a bit more tricky but you should be able to find the procedure at your registrar's support pages. If not post back here with the registrars involved and there's sure to be someone that will know.

I hope this helps somewhat. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Excellent answer Aussie.

Also, if you are selling the domain for triple-digit dollars ($xxx) or more, you might want to consider using an escrow service unless you are familiar with the buyer.
