Hi,

I am thinking about starting a directory site

How difficult is getting initial submissions?
How do I get initial submissions?

I am considering the domain "QV.net" for it.

  • I could go with general directory with "Quo Vadis - where are you going" or...

  • Quality Vacations - Travel, vacation specific directory or...

  • Quality Videos - video related directory or...

  • Really specific "Queen Victoria Village, also known as QV" in Australia directory.
They have shopping center called "Queens Village" and they use QV.com.au :)

Which directory would you choose?

Thanks in advance :D

I'd definitely go with QV- Quo Vadis. Latin is just the cool thing to do.
Start to categorize a link service
then as a subcategory, while you're still using the QV logo, you re-coin to Quality Videos and last but not least there is QV for Quality Voices - your ultimate blog to comment on links, videos, etc. why limiting yourself to just one thing when you have virtually unlimited opportunities? It all depends on your presentation and packaging skills.

once you've started the site, bring it over to the review thread.

Check out directorycritic.com
It might give you a better feel of what's out there.
They are also great for kickstarting your directory
once it's ready.
Hope it helps :)

Thank you both for such helpful post :D

I think I will use Joomla with Moset tree directory script.
What do you think is the best directory script?

Any other thoughts will be much appreciated :)

I use both esyndicate and phpld (both freebies)
I like them both, and both fairly easy (I was a n00b to them)
If I had to pick one - I dunno :D
I like the admin panel better in esyndicate though :imho:

Thanks for your idea :)

Humm...
I never seen new directory where you have to pay with reciprocal link.

You can do that when your directory is huge :D

I am considering to offer...

  • 100% free link submission.
  • Free Featured listing for reciprocal link from PR4 or higher site.
  • What else...

I don't mind making any $ from submissions until I get decent #s of submitted links :)

That is correct but i've spent over $1000 already on just the playstation 3, design and the script, without the cost of advertising. I plan to spend a lot more promoting it so for the people who submit a link now, it'll be worth it in a few months, as the PR goes up so will the price.

All links are permanent.
