How does it feel to lose a 3 letter .COM domain?

Seriously, could anything be worse?
The lucky person who dropcaught it probably sold for 6 to 7 figures.
You don't want to get a heart attack from tracking its sale. Anyone else faced that predicament?

In some cases, heart attacks are the reason why valuable domains expire. I haven't checked if that applies in the case you described; there can be all kinds of reasons.

But if someone has already passed away, they're certainly not going to be concerned with a domain name anymore.

I was just checking tav.com. The current bid is $45,500.

The domain expired after the same owner had it for 30 years.

I don’t think the owner had a heart attack or anything. Maybe they just decided to let it expire, or maybe they don’t even care about domain names anymore.

Hopefully nothing bad happened to them.

Wow! 30 years is a long time to just let a domain expire, let alone a 3-letter one. To second Future Sensors' response above, I would certainly think that owner is demised or incapacitated in some way. Mine wasn't even up to 30 years and I've had nervous breakdowns thinking how much of a fortune that lucky bastard (nothing personal) robbed me of. I probably should become a dropcatch vulture like them

Take a look at Gas.ai, Toronto.ai, Vegas.ai, and more.

They all expired from the same owner and had been registered for years.

The ex-owner is fine, just focused on other things now.

Verily. Gas AI is available, others are taken. Vegas AI registered recently for 8 straight years and in the market for a whooping 500K BIN. This domain business is brutal. That ex-owner has some guts to never look back. I would certainly write my last words and jump off a building if I lost that many valuable domain names at once

That would hurt badly. Dropcatchers are just playing the game as it exists. The real tragedy is when a valuable name expires because of one missed renewal notice.
