How does a development project kicks off?

yes, hello
I am a computer science student and I know how to design and code well (php/mysql/css). my only problem is...I can't find the right idea,but all I know is that I want to create something new and unique. Is there any process you guys follow to decide on a development subject?

I just look at things other people have made and usually get an idea that way

think about every time you go on the computer and try to do something, and go "DANG I WISH THERE WAS AN EASIER WAY TO DO THIS" or something along those lines.

do a search to see if the solution to that problem already exists, and if not, its likely that other people have had the same problem and therefore would like your unique solution.
