I am using front page 2003 and I can't figure out how to protect specific content in the site, for example, I have a music page which links to mp3's where you can hear the artists song, so how would I protect the mp3's that the people are listening to? How do I keep people from downloading things like that? What would I do and how do I do it? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Nikki

The Other way is to just use Player like Wimpy which is php + flash player, and it does not show the directory of your music nor lets users to download i mean you can let them download but default is no!

How are they going to listen if they can't download? Unless you have a telepathic client/server system you are going to have to send bits down the wire for their player to make noise.

Just embed the music on its own page.

Thanks for the info. It has been helpful. I will get which cp I am using in a bit. I forget what it is exactly. And no I don't think the server is "telepathic" heheehehe, but the way I input the songs is I hyperlink the button directly to the mp3 and it should play automatically when you hit the play button, without being prompted to download to hear it. I know I don't like having to download anything when I am visiting a site, unless that was my intent, so I try to steer away from having to do that. Thanks again for all the input.
I am going to try out a couple of your suggestions and see if it works.

The browser still downloads the file though I think doesn't it?

What about converting them into RAM files so they can only be streamed (I think the point of real player streaming is to prevent people from being able to save the file - but don't quote me on that).

Or maybe just 30 second samples will suffice, then you don't need to protect them (except maybe from hotlinking).

Hello all! I'm new here.

using a .ram or .m3u file will allow streaming, but its real easy to open one of them up in notepad to find the full path of the original file. Most people don't know that, though.
