Does anyone do this? Copyright/source protect

hey
this reminded me about the soruce protecting post...could help a few people

a few people i know make there own music and what they do to protect there music from people stealing it is to burn all the source files, wavs, and the final edit to a cd bung it an envelope with a copy of that days paper, seal up and then post it to themselfs

when they get it back they put in a box and forget about it

then if they have copyright problems with people stealing the tune they have proof because they marked

not sure if the sames happens in america and other countries but the stamp in the uk gets marked with a date it was posted on it so that would prove when it was made if the eveltop was un opened


anyone do this method with there websites or have done?

could be a good way for people worried about people stealing there work

That is the traditional way to protect ya self, had it recommended to me many times from a lawyer friend. But the only trouble is if you change anything you have to send ya self a new mail. And my personal fav opinion, no one can legaly own a set of text. If another person can reproduce the same script maybe not exact then it is techiquely not stealing it as they have made it from scratch. If you copywrite then you might aswell say that the first webpage that was copywrited, no other page can use <table> or <form> as its part of a copywrited page.

Anyway if you copywrited a page and then found same thing it would cost you more than you would gain trying to take the other person to court. You would need to talk to someone who really understands this kind of copywrite.

The old mail-it-to-yourself copyright trick. It is very handy, even though you then need a bunch of file cabinets to hold all the envelopes as they pile up. But a great idea, nonetheless -- the true sealed time capsule!
