Looked into this, although not in great depth. Interesting topic.

My impressions are that
1. Google pays attention to any meta data provided (for example the content statement on youtube)
2. Picks up feedback from viewers, tags, ratings that sort of thing
3. Possibly employs speech to text tools, to analyze the actual content.

This is probably an advantage for vids which actually have vocal content. No idea how it interprets music in sound files. Since they appear to have this technology, it seems likely that this is heavily relied on assuming it was practical to implement on that scale. Research into this technique appears to have started in 2006.

Might be interesting to script out something for keyword density and experiment with the initial results. If google is actually using transcripted videos then it makes perfect sense that the same algorhythms that apply to text would generally apply to the content of the video.

Some other factors that make sense and are probably being used
number of links to the video, the actual wording of the links. Can't see any reason why they would throw that out, since its considered a fairly reliable method of content analysis.

Probably relies somewhat on surrounding text/content in the same way it attempts to classify images. Other SEO factors which apply to images probably make sense as well.

When using video search the results page seems to like videos with the keyword in the title, which makes sense.

Like all content, original new stuff probably has advantages. I don't think it would take much of an edit to confuse the bot, but hard to know.

Anyhow, some possibilities to start with. I think I will research this topic a bit more.

Undoubtedly it is an interesting and possibly important part of seo. Although I would bet that some combination of the above factors is the basis for getting vids to rank. If you pay attention to all of those things, then you are likely to emerge with a winning video in terms of rank.

With more recent technologies, factors like time spent on page compared to video length may be part of the algorhythm. This is pure speculation, but it would make sense.

Whatever the result, there are only so many tools available, so its really a question of how the various factors are weighted. While I may change my mind about the details after further study, I think the best approach is to cover the bases and apply as much as possible.
