Hi,
Looking in AwStats, I see one day this week my site had 1,300 hits. I really don't think this is right. The stats only shows by week. How can I better figure out what happened on that day?

Hi,

just ignore the log with Hits, it not a real visitors, it can be a web boots or something like that,
look a first time visitor only when you are using awstats.

the best is to use more powerful online log system

i recommended histats.com - it's also free :)

Thank you for the link. I started using google analytics too and it doesn't seem to show the bots.

if it is a Wordpress site use "WASSUP" plugin, let's you filter the bots out from the stats

Use Google analytics and webmaster tools to get the full information about your real unique visitors. The systematic analysis will help you to understand your target audience - their location, language, needs, how much time they spend on your website, what content they admire, and which one is not good at all. And of course these tools will tell you everything about your traffic source. It's a real must for a website owner.

Agree with above post. I also use the Google Webmaster Tool. It is indeed a nifty tool to get information about your traffic. The stats it shows is complete all with your website's health and over-all performance. Do check it out, it's so cool that it is even free.
