How do I sell a domain?

Hello everyone,
I currently own about 80 domains, but don't have any listed for sale. But I got an offer on one, and I'm not sure how you go about selling a domain. Mine are all registered with 1and1, and their parked on parked.com. I always hear "pushing" but I'm not sure how that works. Thanks for any input!

Not sure what your question is, are you asking for places where you can sell your domain, or how to push a domain from one account to another?....

You can sell through following reliable sites:

- Sedo
- Tdnam

There are others but these two should be enough for now. It cost a % of the selling price.

If you already have a buyer, then use Escrow, this way you will not get cheated. They also take a % of selling price.

If you use these, you will have secured yourself, and will not be cheated.

"Push" is when one transfers a domain to another within the same registrar.

Never transfer/push anything before you have got the money!

So you have 80 domains eh? That is definately quite a bit. One thing you will want to be careful with is the company you have the domains with. I hear many rumors about 1and1 causing trouble for domainers. For example I recall hearing someone mention they charge a fee to do an account change or "domain push". A domain push is where you move a domain from one account (such as yours) to another account (such as the buyer's). Domain pushes or account changes can usually done free of charge at most registrars. If it is true that 1and1 charges a fee for domain pushes, this might be 1 factor that hurts you when attempting to sell the domains. If there are any domains you feel are worth lots of money, it doesnt hurt to mention it in the appraisals forum here at NamePros. Many of the members here are more than willing to help you get an idea on how much some of your domains are worth. My final suggestion is to make sure you use an escrow service when dealing with large money sales. The last thing you need is to get stuck in the end with someone not paying you for the domain you sent them. I welcome you to the domaining market and be sure to have fun.

thanks for everyones response. Yes, I'm asking how to transfer a domain that someone wants to buy, not where can I sell them. Do I got an award or anything for having the worst hosting company to push with? I did find it to be a complete nightmare when I had a company recreate my main company website over the past couple months. I was going from flashed based using a linux server, to database driven html using windows. I think I lost about 5 years off my life....

Hi,

If the person you are selling to has a 1&1-account, then you just have to follow this link:

If the person does NOT have a 1&1-account and wants to move it to another registrar, this is the step: (DO NOT jump over nr.1)

1. The buyer pays you.
2. Login to your 1&1-account.
3. Go to "Manage Domains", this is under "Administration.
4. Select the check box next to the domain you want to transfer.
5. Click at "Contact" -> "Edit Administrative Contact" (control if the e-mail is correct), if correct go to step 6.. If not correct it, click "Next", and then click "Submit".
6. For some extensions you need a Authorization code. For example .com, .net or .org., for others you dont need any ex. .cc.
6.1 To get the Auth. Code go back to step 3 and 4, after step 4. jump forward to 6.2.
6.2 Click at "Info"
6.3 Copy the Auth code you see and past it in Notepad (you are going to need this code)
7. Go back to step 3 and 4, after step 4. jump forward to 7.1
7.1 Click at "Transfers" -> "Lock/Unlock" and unlock the domain.

Now it is the buyers turn.
8. Give the buyer the Auth. code, and tell him the domain is ready to transfer.
8.1 The buyer must then log in to his registrar, and follow these steps, (This can very from registrar to registrar but) in generel the steps goes like this:
8.2 After the buyer logs in, he click at a link saying "transfer domain"
8.3 In "transfer domain" page, he has to type in the domainname and the Auth. code you gave him.
8.4 the transfer will begin.

Now back to you, its again your turn. After a couple of days (this differes from registrar to registrar) you have to do these steps:
8.5 You will get an e-mail from the buyers registrar, asking for approval of the transfer, do so by following the instructions in the email.

These steps should do the trick, but it is difference from registrar to registrar. The only step you must NOT jump over is step 1. REMEMBER THIS.
